If you actually wanted useful conspicuity, the exhaust would make a 180 and fire forwards. If someone is behind you, the extra noise should do very little to make you more conspicuous. There is a tiny chance that more noise forward may help, but exhaust is highly directional to the rear so even an extraordinarily loud exhaust only gives you marginal gains forward where it might matter. There are lots of opinions on whether loud pipes save lives, anyone had an experience where your pipes saved you from a bad situation? Or where pipes could have saved you?
If the person driving the car was blind (or had their windows completely covered with snow) and stopped before hitting you, I am willing to believe that having loud pipes instead of an e-bike affected the outcome. How would you know if your loud pipe saved your life? A person either saw you or heard you then saw you. The only way to know absolutely would be to hand out questionnaires after the fact.
