Lock for helmet?

If you ever want your helmet to be missing when you return back to your bike, lock it up using the straps.

Thieves will cut the strap and restrap the helmet.

$1000 Shoei gone because I used the strap lock on the bike.

Ever since then, I run a cable lock through the visor hole. Cables are harder to cut than fabric straps.
Where would one get a helmet restraped? Iv'e got a strap thats frayed bad and would get it fixed if I could. Its riveted to the helmet.

I had no idea that they were rated so slow. Someone told me that the Givi cases I use can withstand well over 200 and not affect handling to any noticeable amount.
With the givi top case on the Aprilia, at 200+ it feels like you are on an expanded metal bridge. Not scary, just disconcerting.

I use the D-Link loop bracket thingies on my half helmets. Even though my current isn't a cheapie by any means, it's not even close to a high end full face...and thieves probably aren't interested in half helmets anyways. For a full face, a cable lock is absolutely necessary. I have a gun cable lock that I've used for both helmets as well as through one arm for my jacket as well.

$10 at Canadian Tire, there are ones out there with longer cables as well.

I have one of these as well although my current helmet has a ratchet mechanism making them defunct, but I keep it for the times I occasionally use my full face.

Even if your helmet isn't worth a lot of money and you don't mind the strap being cut and the lid stolen (because hey, D-ring locks are soooo convenient!), it's still a major pain in the ass to have to call your wife or buddy to bring a spare helmet to where you and your bike are at.

Had my helmet stolen early in my riding career, so I didn't have an extra helmet at home. Had to call my wife to drive over to where I was, she brought her own lid for me to wear and I had to ride all the way home with an XS lid on my M-sized head.

Wasn't close to home either...

Was a huge headache, literally and metaphorically.

My current ride has a chonker of a top box big enough to swallow two full face helmets, so I don't really need to strap the helmet outside anymore now unless I'm travelling long distance and have the top box full of camping stuff or whatnot, so yeah, seldom a problem getting my half helmet in there.

Another nice thing about travelling with my wife with her Spyder, the frunk is cavernous and will hold probably 3 full face helmets, and each panier will hold one as well.

Congrats on the nice new lid!

Since my lids are expensive to replace, I typically put it in my top box for short or long stops.

That said, I've kept a helmet guardian on my bikes for the last 15 or so years. Very handy if I'm riding 2up or don't have the top box on me.
\Helmet Guardian
Most older bikes I've have had had these installed as factory equipment. Are they no longer common on newer bikes?

I know that all my VStrom’s just had a hard metal U shaped thing under the seat and a small extension loop to connect the helmet.

All my bikes older than 20yrs had proper keyed helmet locks on them that didn’t require removing the seat, which is what I think you’re referring to.

I bought that helmet guardian so that when my wife and I would go for long rides and then hike for a bit, the hard cases were filled with our gear and no room left over for the 2 lids.

This, thanks!

Isn't there a helmet lock under your seat? Pop the seat, insert D ring, put seat back on?
I've heard about this, and it's been mentioned here before, but neither bikes I've had have something like this, and I have no idea how it works.

Love the gun shield idea. I'm gonna pick one up as my 1090 doesn't have a helmet lock, only a thin little cable that hooks on under the seat. $10 is a cheap and convenient solution. Thanks!
