Helmet Cams

What do you think is on the back of the adhesive mount......

It's a fair point though. The adhesive on those things is extremely strong. Not sure what I'd use to get it off the helmet.

Still trying to get my Contour lined up correctly. Frickin' annoying to look at skewed footage.

Someone in BC did but they fought it and won. There is no laws against it but cops just don't want evidence of themselves making a mistake or abusing power. There is something of a law about you cant have something that ruins the structural integrity of the helmet (such as using electric saw to create air holes or for a place to put feathers like the guys in Mad Max)

OK, good to know, thanks ;)

Please don't post vids of group rides without permission of all those in the ride.NOT COOL! Just my personal pet peeve.

I use the Contour+2. I like the built in GPS function which you can view after recording to see what routes you've ridden. Very helpful in remembering what roads are good for riding. Here's a shot of the setup I have with the Contour+2. It has a 2.5mm audio jack which works perfectly with the Drift HD external mic... you get crystal clear audio with it and its probably the best setup for vlogging if you're into that stuff. Don't let the image quality if the last picture deter you, I set the recording quality quite low because I was just testing the setup on a ride focusing on the position of the camera. What I LOVE about the Contour products is that the lens can be rotated so you can mount your camera at any angle and still get a horizontal horizon. It also looks pretty cool on a helmet... you don't end up looking like a teletubby.

i picked the +2 up in that bankruptcy sale they had a few months ago.
did they ever re launch their web based program to upload the vids to? i liked how the web program did the gps overlay and i think it flipps to google maps too

I'm using the sony as10 action cam. it has one of the best night time lighting I've seen. currently have it side mounted to my helmet using Velcro strips and it holds just fine at any speed. as for external mic im using just some dollar mic off ebay which is pretty good. but going to be upgrading to this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...055_ME_52W_Noise_Cancellation_Microphone.html

if you are doing a lot of night time or evening riding, then i would highly consider the sony lineup. the new hdr-as100 came out too...

Lol guys stop paying abnormal prices for branded cameras like gopros. I can get you the exact same thing for under $70. Hit me up with a PM if you need one. I'll send you pictures, specs, everything. I'm in this business lol..
Are you talking about the Mobius camera?

Just looked up some information on the Mobius camera anyone have it setup as a helmet camera or on there bike?

There was a discussion in the law a undocumented last year on this. Your info is incorrect. Someone posted case law here in Ontario of rulings from Ontario courts that ruled NOTHING which protrudes from the shell of the helmet more than 5mm and is not a manufacturer installed, (OEM) equipment, nullifies the safety standards of the helmet and therefore is illegal. The OPP charged a fellow last summer in bobcaygeon and last I heard a conviction was obtained.

My advice mount your camera ON the bike. It also gives a better quality video as the viewer doesn't need to see what is on the sidewalk as your looking around..lol.

Are you going to get a ticket every time your out with a helmet cam on?? Not likely, but why five them an excuse to stop you in the first place.

I have also been told by buddies I used to patrol with that this word is spreading among the various forces that this is an "easy ticket". Now that the precedent has been set in Ontario, you will need to go to a higher appellant court, ($$$), to get a ticket tossed

Not worth the risk or aggregation. IMHO

I have a ContourHD - picked it up for a hundred bucks a couple years ago from future shop, works great except for the wind noise which is ridiculous. Don't even think about getting good audio at anything over 50km/h, only thing that helps this is the waterproof case, but then the sound is way too muffled.

can't go wrong with this price... You got 13 hours left.

Sony HDR-AS15/B for $139.. I wouldn't buy it but as a first camera... it's a good price.

Thanks for sharing.
I'm actually thinking about buying it, it has pretty good reviews.

Only fault is that it can't be attached like a contour to the side of the helmet. I'm sure some velcro would do the job.

I like the viewing angle that the helmet cam provides but if you're worried about the legality the next closest thing would probably be a chest mount for a gopro (not sure about this option for other action cams, but I'm sure there's similar options). Not the best option but like I said it's closest to a helmet cam. http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/chest-mount-harness

Here's a side-by-side comparison of the helmet cam/chest mount

Just wondering if anyone has used and compared the "WASP" cam. They had a booth at the Megaspeed car show at International Center this weekend. Looks like a direct competitor to the GoPro. They had 3 levels of camera, the top option having a remote control watch with LCD display of camera. They also had all the brackets and attachments for all sports (ie scuba enclosure for 60m, chest rig, suction cups, roll bar attach. etc.). Interesting thing is distributor located in Ajax. Top kit was at show for $349.

Does anyone know the law in Ontario re helmet cams? I can't find anything about them being legal or not and if it's acceptable to mount them on an approved helmet.

Not legal in Ontario but you probably won't get hassled. You can not attach anything to the shell of a helmet.

I have read the ruling hedo2002 mentions. It's actually pretty interesting to read.

The ruling while based on some ridiculous novelty item, focuses in the judgement on things that are attached to a helmet and prohibits everything that isn't helmet manufacturer provided or intended. You needn't worry a face shield would run foul as the manufacturer has snaps for one thing and the law isn't allowed to make contracts or judgement that would force you to endanger yourself IMHO. I however wonder how a goggle would be viewed in the eyes of the law.

So, given that this is Onterrible and it's all about revenue generation via tickets and fines and fees and surcharges here, mount the camera to the bike or chest.

Interesting. I routinely see GoPros on top of helmets around here.

Will try mounting mine inside the windshield.

Doesn't it have a pair of LASER spot LEDs to use for aiming and levelling? The older Contour unit that I had did. My preference is to mount my cameras on my bike, anyway, since I find that watching helmet cam video tends to make me motion sick.
