Bathfitters came by to give me an estimate.
Ensuite shower is 32x60. Twenty five yr old tile is getting "tired".
Not wanting, or getting anything else done.....just floor, walls and a door.
$10,400.
I assumed the salesman was on crack, and passed on the "offer".

Bathfitters is convenient and very fast but you aren't saving money vs redoing tile.

I've had it up to "here" with tile & grout.
Looking for something more practical, for clean up etc.
Pre fabs are out. They come with 3 walls, I need four. (I have a 24" door, a full door is impossible)
PVC wall panels, and a prefab floor is the next option.

Costco always seem to have a big shower enclosure system for sale but that may just be doors.

Ceramic tile at Eden Tile in Hamilton has four ft x eight ft ceramic wall tile . I don’t want to be the guy drilling for faucets , but it solves a problem .

Cousins put granite slabs in their bathroom. Single piece per wall. Expensive as hell but gorgeous.

Also slippery if used on the floor. You can solve that with some sealer and sand but that's more maintenance.

Granite needs constant care doesn’t it? I had my bathroom done in natural slate all over and it looked absolutely gorgeous. For about a year or so then it started looking crummy, then we resealed it…then crummy again. Rinse and repeat. What a pain in the ass that was. Ripped it all out fairly recently and I wish we had never even put it in the first place.

Natural slate is a terrible choice in a bath area , it will collect grime . Granite would look gorgeous.
There is a company in Hamilton whose name escapes me at the moment that produces synthetic marble and stone , full size wall panels custom made . They also install , three to five seams . I’ll be looking into them for a bath / shower I’m about to reno . Less seams , less work .

Cultured marble is not ideal for bath walls, it will bow under its own weight over time. I’ve replaced a couple, and am doing my own 25 year old shower this year.

Rona sells a brand called OVE ( might be their house brand). You can buy wall panels separately if you have to close in the 4th side.

OVE And cultured marble are nearly the same thing if you read the recipe , it’s polyester resin with stone dust .

Im doing over a shower in a spare bathroom , aluminum Z bars will be epoxied to the panels on sixteen in spacing , they can hang in place . I have an option to buy Corian in full sheets , I waiting for a call back to see if it could be seam sealed or if the spans would expand / contract with the heat in the shower . This shower is getting a steam generator so spot heating might be a problem.

You should have spoken to my wife 20 years ago.

No more natural stone for us. Actually, that’s not totally true as I really like terracotta and I don’t think that needs treatment regularly.
