The snobbery of Ontarians and Canadians especially against people like the Albertans and the ones in Texas and Florida who value freedom over fear is a joke. Just keep cutting your own throat and laugh while others get on with life . View attachment 48506
News flash. 150M people in the US have been vaccinated. ALL the states are reporting similar numbers.

Except Florida. Because, Florida.

This needs to be taken in some additional context. Daily case numbers and deaths in the USA have had weekly fluctuations for the entire duration of this pandemic ... it seems that a lot of those responsible for reporting or accounting for this, don't work weekends. (We have some of that, too, but it's not to the same extent). This can be filtered out by looking at 7-day averages.

Here's Texas: Texas COVID: 2,901,996 Cases and 50,536 Deaths - Worldometer (On the graphs, click the 7-day moving average button.)

They're at 3102 daily new cases (7-day average) and it has been holding more-or-less steady there for the last 5 weeks (with a decline leading into that). For a population of about 28 million this is around 110 daily new cases per million population. (In Ontario, we're currently around double that.)

Daily new deaths is 51 (7-day average) and it has been +/- steady there for the last couple of weeks. Corrected for population, this is around the same as where Ontario is right now.

They are ahead of us on vaccinations: Workbook: COVID-19 Vaccine in Texas (Dashboard)

A nuisance is that this map only allows comparisons to the population 16 years old or older as opposed to the whole state population, but we can fish that out. 11,130,000 people vaccinated with at least one dose out of state population 29 million (from Worldometers) gives 38.4% of the total population of Texas with at least one dose.

We are behind but catching up fast: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccinations - Statistics and Research (Type in Canada and check-mark it and then uncheck some other countries to unclutter the graph)

Note that the slope of the Canada graph is steeper than the USA graph (it appears that "vaccine hesitancy" is starting to become a factor). The USA as a whole is at 43.97% as of 2nd May, we're at 33.64% (so 10.33% behind). A week ago we were 12.63% behind. A week before that, we were 15.22% behind. I am pretty sure that we will overtake the USA on this measurement in the near future.

newsflash. I know, Canadians were looking down on America a few months ago and now we realize Canada is the loser country.
The fear cycle and hide in your basement idiocy has contributed to our failures not helped.
Regardless they still value Freedom and individuality over the sheep bore moron culture we have here . That boldness also led them to get more vaccines faster . Unlike our " it's good enough" passive attitude

You Keep hope alive while Tam says we "may" be able to loosen some restrictions by mid summer. The people want this lockdown sit on your butt while getting paid stuff therefore the politicians will keep giving it to them as long as they want it

You might check your facts on that one. Their last leader (the orange one) did set them up for success on the vaccine front. His regime funded and expedited research that for the last 80 years had made virtually zero progress against COVID viruses - not bad for a 10 month project.

Our leader was more interested in playing with Chinese and European 'friendlies' when he bought the 400million doses for Canada. Despite thumbing the Americans on Virus collaboration, they have sent us 1.5 million doses.

That's my point , America ( trump ) was bold . Our country is run and mostly populated by passive wimps. Therefore we look down on and run from boldness to our detriment. I love the expression lead ,follow ,or get out of the way. But the Canadian version is don't lead or I'll be mad at you for taking a stand on something and having an opinion and then I will get petty and jealous and try to tear you down even if you're trying to help me

Rather cynical view.

I prefer to believe Canadians lack of civic education is by design, socialist like to keep civics out of schools. In the USA kids start learning about their gov't, rights, responsibilities in Kindergarten, by the time they leave grade 6, most understand the structure of their gov't better than your average Canadian adult. Socialists know an uneducated public doesn't understand what gov't does, they just end up loving it the same way they love their mom.

Ask a North Korean who their favorite person is.

If Kim isn't your favorite north Korean you disappear in the night. Its not being uneducated or unaware , its control by complete fear. Remember when Putin was the mayor of St petersburg? no municipal strikes.

The Americans were'nt bold, they just weren't taxed to the tits . Wonder why we dont make vaccines here ?? most world vaccines contain Canadian intellectual property, but to make the physical medications is just not viable to big pharma, we tax the hell out of them to the point they make drugs everywhere but here. Then we give them rediculous timelines to recoup investment before we make them open up generic makers. 8-10yrs and you have to license generics.
Now that its become a National embaresment that we dont make vaccines , the Feds will fund a plant. It should work out great, few yrs behind, couple hundred mil over budget, but it will be national treasure !!

Maybe @mimico_polak can chime in on this - I'm guessing he has insider knowledge in this area.

Decades ago I worked behind the iron curtain, spent a fair amount of time facilitating delivery of DEC computers through Canada to the Eastern block. Lots of time in East Berlin, Gdansk and Prague before the wall(s) came down. I remember so many uni students were active and engaged -- what surprised me was their naivety and blind trust. Many wanted freedoms of the west, but were really scared about losing protection offered by their governments.

Just watch. We're going to get a greater percentage of the population vaccinated by the end of this. It's all well and good to develop a vaccine, it's another matter to get people to take it. The extreme degree to which politics has been brought into this, combined with a general distrust of authority among a lot of the US population, is going to lead to a long tail end of this pandemic in the USA.

We'll have a long tail end of it, too ... but ours will be of a lesser magnitude than theirs, unless someone somehow convinces certain segments of the US population to get vaccinated even though right now, they don't want to.

Prediction: It will be only for this short period of time, in which the USA started their vaccination programme sooner and managed to just beat the onset of B.1.1.7 while we didn't quite make it, that the USA has lower covid19 infection rates (slightly) per capita than we do, and their covid19 death rate per capita (7-day average) has never been below ours and probably never will be.

Woohoo. My all natural/probiotic friends both got AZ. That was tough for them. I get AZ tomorrow morning but have to drive 50 km to get it as there is no supply near me.
Day 20, still no software update. Someone tell Gates to fix his 5G tower.

Well you have been thinking about replacing your bike. If you end up on a zero, we know that Bills plan is working.
Not sure if i mentioned it already or not but i was about 30 minutes away from going with a bagger to begin with. Then BMW came back and accepted my offer.

Shoulda gone with my gut. oh wells.

Posted the cartoon elsewhere but worth another look.

This is my big beef about Canadian education.

BTW, Hitler didn't take over Germany in a day.

It would be interesting to ask people if they ever voiced their immigration concerns to their city Councillor or emailed their MP regarding the parking issue on their street.

Rick Mercer does a US idiot thing (He picks the low hanging fruit) where he asks Americans questions only posting the stupid answers. Canadians would do worse on our politics. Many of our recently elected would fail.

That should be a given fact. The only reason it's a prediction is that our leader has a bad habit of shooting his mouth off or doing something to incite the wrath of other nations. If he manages to gather a supply of vaccine without doing so, we should easily overtake the U.S. at some point. Can he do it?

He’s getting divorced so has pussy on his brain
