Defense against York U rapists

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...-york-university-sex-assaults/article4402605/

Not to downplay the incident, but it turns out this guy was groping female students while they were walking. Still to be taken seriously, but no one is being dragged to the bushes and violently raped. I think women on campus should still avoid walking alone whenever possible, especially after hours.

Some people are resilient and life goes on but some are emotionally fragile and even a grope can shatter their self esteem. Some cultures also blame the woman.

Maybe send the perps down to Georgia for the refilming of Deliverance.

It's true that it's not always rape, but I wasn't specifically referring to that incident. It can be regular assault, or robbery, or whatever. It's my opinion that York has a sordid history of predators going after young women for whatever. I've walked the campus many times, and it's not hard to see the dangers present - pretty much every thirty feet there's a door, alley or corner in the dark to hide in. That alone combined with the presence of female students attracts these predators there. I don't see campus security or the frequent police presence as much of a deterrent - you don't know the motives of that guy in a hoodie smoking a cig / listening to headphones just by looking at him, and he could stand there for hours waiting for a good opportunity.

Is she hot? What does she look like? Pics? Post up her class and bus schedule so we can offer assistance

Using any form of pepper spray will result in criminal charges unless she can come up with a real convincing keeping dogs away story and the cop chooses to believe her. Unfortunately, our legal framework only allows for people to get victimized. Her best bet is to always walk with someone, be aware of her surroundings and have an escape route.

Hence the recommendations that I made in both my posts. There are basic safety precautions that women should take regardless of whether there's a known assailant on campus. Not to put blame on the victim or anything, but that's just the unfortunate reality for women in this world.

If I was a girl I'd rather risk getting charged with having pepper spray than getting HIV from some drug addled rapist.

Quoted for emphasis!!

Is a rapist going to go to the police and say "I want this girl charged because she tazed/pepper sprayed me while I was raping her"?

Probably not.

BTW: Bear spray is available here and packs a better punch.

Some people (like me for example) aren't effected by CS/CN/OC gasses enough to incapacitate them. Pepper spray, riot gas etc are ineffective against a fair percentage of people.

They ask for your license when u buy that. I wonder if that would be used against u if they trace it back?

Well..the rapist doesn't lay the charges..the police do and the Crown decides whether to proceed. The rapist would actually be a witness. It's really up to the police and Crown as to whether she would be charged or not. I would choose something you can legally carry and use in self-defence.

The crown might charge u for attempted murder and aggravated assault while the rapist might only get charged with attempted rape <<shakes head>>

Just burn yorku down. Nothing good has come out there

Must be true, for one of their own to put them down like that, lol

What Short stop said. If avoiding the area where the incidents occur is not an option, then travel in pairs or groups. Simplest & most effective method to decrease odds of sex assault or harassment. These are cowardly predators & it is doubtful that they will attack multiples. If they do, someone present can call for help.

The school should also have a procedure for students to follow, or patrolling Security during times that an incident is most likely to occur if this is such an issue. Are they not reasonably responsible for the safety of students when on the property?

Spray is a double edged sword. Carrying it is one thing. Using it effectively under duress & coping with the material that gets on your face is another. In an excited state, There is just as much likelihood that the victim will contaminate themselves with it rather than the predator. Now they're blind, in extreme pain & a more vulnerable target.

It sounds like there is poor cpted with regard to the problem areas described.

This issue should be addressed between members of the school & management, not on a motorcycle forum.

if a girl actually gets charged for pepper spraying someone trying to rape her. I would be shocked, and then you can PM me and I'll put you in touch with the right people. Seriously

No **** the rapist doesn't lay the charge.

I said I doubt a rapist would report being pepper sprayed while in the act of raping someone.... Kinda like I doubt a person would report their bag of blow as stolen.

Can't tell if serious.

Let me introduce you to the anti-rape dress. Transform into a vending machine and disappear to fool even the slyest of rapist.

A guy got charged with unlawful discharge for firing warning shots, over the head of people who were trying to burn his house down with him in it. Very little surprises me these days.

Yes I recall that but I don't think they are comparable.

Other than him and his family being at greater risk of grave bodily harm and having a penis, I'd say they're pretty comparable. He was even in the legal clear as his firearms were legally stored, he just got his gun outta the safe, loaded it and went out to defend his family.. He didn't even harm the attackers.. When put in those terms, you're right - they're not comparable

I would answer this if I felt that it was a serious question, instead of someone just being a dick.
