Hope no one is planning on going to Cuba in the coming days / weeks....we were on the edge of booking but decided on Mexico for our annual trip.

Super glad now that we chose MX over Cuba. I feel for the people of Cuba that will have their economy devastated (again) with tourists not being able to arrive / stay.

Transat and another airline aren't changing flights. If A/C wanted to keep flying there are ways (stop for a splash at another island for instance). It costs some money but shouldn't be tragically expensive..

After a friend's husband died in Cuba (with terrible Healthcare being a large factor in the death) my wife said Cuba is off her list forever.

So distance to Havana from Toronto is fourteen hundred ? miles and range on an AirBus three thirty is seven thousand miles , down and back twice, what’s the real story ?
That said , buses ,taxis , food supply trucks will stop running in a week , going into Cuba right now as a tourist is a bad idea . I can’t see what Dons end game is with his blockade unless its own everything in the northern hemisphere. Hard to imagine people will starve and die on that island , it will be the next Haiti .

Cuba is a communist paradise...
It's for communists
Socialismo o Muerte..!!

Why anyone would go there on vacation is beyond me.
Tell us what did Cuba do to you?

I've never been but I would be curious to see what's it's like. Havana has a fair bit of history to it, and seeing all the old cars and basically being stuck in the 60's. Like any other place just to see what's there.

My wife won’t set foot in Cuba again , she found the street begging and hustling in Havana really off putting .I’ve been in Cuba a couple times and I love the place. But I can say no to beggars , you don’t go there for resort food and you need to keep your expectations in check . It’s a hard scrabble life for many .

One place I've never been but always wanted to go, reading this thread maybe now not so much. :(

I've been three times many years ago. Food is universally ****. Hotels are run down. Beaches are awesome. People are awesome. Historical sights are awesome. Rum is awesome.

No one goes for the food and accommodation and if you have enough rum you won’t notice any of that.

The bay of pigs is an interesting sight. Havana is great to tour around. I flew in a communist era Russian Mil military helicopter with my legs dangling out the load bay door for not a lot of cash. Toured a cave with a tour guide who was actually a geology professor but did the tour guide thing as it paid more. Fascinating country but these days I like my food and accommodation level so there are other places to see.

Been to Cuba a handful of times and have never had a bad experience...except the kids getting foot and mouth disease...but that's it.

The food...well if you go expecting the Keg you're in for disappointment. I don't go to Cuba for the food, I go for the rum and the beaches. Much preferred hanging out on the beach in Cuba v Cancun.

Friends go every year and they only go to resorts that are < 3 years old as they still get the full service package. Anything over 3 years (or older) starts to show it's age very quickly, and has an unfortunate lack of food selection (i.e.: french fries for the kids).

But...I've had better communication in English v Mexico, and found the experience MUCH better in Cuba over Mexico.

I would go back for sure, but when things settle back down again as I'm just glad we don't have a booking in the next few weeks.

As to what Trump is planning on...who knows. Rubio is calling the shots on this one from what I read, and as an ex-Cuban national he may want to topple the current regime...depending on what you read.

The worst part about Cuba...the Quebecois...and the Russians.

Both loud, arrogant, and annoying as f$@k.

I'll take the former vs the latter.

I was last there about eight yrs ago. Post Fidel , they had started to allow privately owed restaurants and bars and the quality and options in Havana were very good . I stayed in the Jewish quarter ( who knew?) of Havana and the Hotel was outstanding. Ahead of that we stayed out at Varadero beach , hotel was clean but rough , we were warned to not rent scooters ( terrible maintenance) so of course we did . I did a short scuba dive trip and the equipment was awful , wish I had my own critical gear . But I was happy to have gone . Not sure I will go back now , but I’m sad not going may be because the Yanks are at it again .
