I was in Home Depot today, just walked in, sanitizer at the door. They had rearranged line ups for the checkouts. There was one customer in line without a mask and talking in a foreign language. No one said anything.

There was another who had lowered his mask to his chin while talking on his phone. I don't lower my mask to talk to my wife and she doesn't have a problem hearing me.

Compliance in the USA is poor and their infection rate is far worse than ours. If they don't get the point how do we get it across to Canadians that compliance is important? If we emulate what Italy was in the spring with more dead bodies than ambulances to take them away, more people will see the reality but by then it will be too late.

Short of gestapo tactics how do we get 100% compliance? I can see the wrong kind of altercation if individuals go vigilante on non compliers.

I can't see gyms opening as there is too much huffing and puffing.

Restaurants may open but with difficulty. A bit of an exaggeration but basically a fume hood over each table and distancing. The cost will be astronomical and heating costs will soar unless an air to air heat exchanger is used, adding to the cost. Throw in preheat to all the virus in the ductwork. $$$$$$$$$$$

Social bubbles are so misunderstood. Do we need I D cards listing our bubble mates? I wonder how many people could list their bubble makes and get a passing score on distancing.

Construction seems to be getting away without many safeguards. N95 masks were designed for them and are rarely used by cement workers.
I've been on a few construction sites in covid times. I am the only one wearing an N95 mask (I have a box, there are a ton of strangers with various levels of non-compliance, distancing in many situations is impossible). Most people are either no mask or cloth mask (and 90% of the time it is under the nose).

I'm old fashioned. I look both ways before stepping off the curb. I don't think the rest of the world is responsible for my health. If I screw up I pay the bill. I'm a socialist at heart but see the problems on the horizon as the time comes when the orphans exceed the nannies.

Apparently you need to be in close (bluetooth) contact for more than a certain amount of time before it will register on the app. From what I understand it does not constantly search but does it 'every so often'. What that time frame is I cannot get a clear answer on but I am under the impression that someone coughing on you as they walk by will not register unless it happens to be at the exact time that the app is searching.

The reason I wanted to know how often it searched was my battery was draining by about 60% a workday when I had the app up and running. When I deleted it I was back to losing about 20% a workday.
I don't know... I'm a social distancing virtuoso and I can see one of the exposure queries checked 985 different keys today. I had to go in to the city last Friday so I know why it's even checking that many, but I was only there a couple hours and I drove all the way in and out, no public transit.

Some people just don’t believe in what they can’t see. I'm convinced one of the worst jobs at universities is the guy that checks for radiation safety compliance. He swabs down areas and checks for contamination......he can “see” it with his equipment, some users are a bit more casual about the whole thing.

Lots of people wandering around in a state of denial. What they can’t see can’t hurt them etc. Some of it is machismo, they are indestructible, built from better genes than mere mortals. Some of it is just pure ignorance.

Put the mask deniers in an area with a radiation leak and I’m pretty sure they would behave the exact same way until they wonder why they are sunburnt inside a building.

I prefer to err on the side of caution.

I have the app on my phone and will be soon travelling through Quebec and into N.B. I know Quebec has this or a similar app but not sure if theirs will work in conjunction with Ontario's app? I believe if was the Federal Governments intent to have this be nation wide but not sure how many provinces currently have it and whether they are all interactive with each other.

Quebec only just came onboard with the app versus trying (unsuccessfully) to develop their own, so usage may be limited, but there's nothing stopping you from just leaving it running anyways. I had it running for our trip out there myself a few weeks back and it does show some key exchanges, although it's entirely possible they were all between my wifes phone and mine (with no members of the public) as she runs the app as well. That, and we avoided interacting with anyone else indoors like the plague for the most part with the exceptions of grocery stores to restock the RV.

Bluetooth works for about 30 feet on average in ideal conditions, or about 15-20 in many indoor conditions, so you don't need to be super close for it to potentially trigger. But you do need to be in the same area for more than a few minutes as that's what's considered to be an "exposure". For example, I just checked my logs on my app and I see I exchanged a key with someone at 11:35AM this morning - I know exactly where I was at that time, a Subway Sandwiches location in Pickering. Most people came in and out, but I usually eat in, so I'm there long enough to trigger a key exchange. Being anonymous I'll never know exactly who that person is, but I suspect it would be one of the employees there running the app. Makes sense given the job of a retail employee - if one of their customers comes back positive and triggers it in the app, they find out and know to go get tested.

30 feet? I stream music from my phone in my truck with bluetooth. If I'm inside a store listening to music though my bluetooth earbuds and forget to kill the connection to the truck, it will keep reconnecting to the truck depending on how far away I am. Certainly more than 30 feet. Probably closer to 70, through a cinderblock wall.

Add Barron Trump to the Covid list. The headline said "Had" so not sure if he still has it or it's fake news. That makes 50% of the family so DT's winning the race to maximum health failure.

Here's hoping the rest get it. They're all a POS.

Legal trophy hunting is no different than regular, legal, hunting. In fact you could make the argument that it's better because 1) people pay big money in fundraisers to hunt the animals and 2) the money goes directly to fund conservation efforts in places that need it. Humane and controlled hunting is actually a big benefit to the environment as it helps keep populations in check.

Some populations of animals have kept themselves in check for aeons before we came along. Much of that conservation crap is baloney from the trophy hunting orgs. Tourism to see wild animals brings in more money than trophy hunts in Africa. Trophy hunters just like shooting **** and nailing the dead bits to their walls

What a pile of feces.

Sure, aeons ago. But humans are here now, and we've messed up the natural habitat of pretty much every animal on the planet. It's therefore our duty to manage the various ecosystems to keep populations in check, among other things. This is why every province has a Ministry of Natural Resources. Said ministry will routinely go and cull animal populations that have grown too large/unbalanced. If private citizens want to pay extra $$ to do the same thing (legally), why not let them?

When you draw bead on a trophy it is not the old starving one with mange, it is the perfect specimen. <- the one you are suppose to keep!

+ You should not be allowed to use the word cull. You have never done it and if you did it Should have made you physically ill afterwards.

I'm slightly miffed that Covid wasn’t spread by leopards (or is it a cheetah?) and then I could imagine some extreme karma for these sick cowards.
Panthera pardus
Leopard

To distinguish the difference:
Cheetah has a pug nose and foot more like a dog, Leopard has the full on claws, Jaguar comes from South America and some of the rosette markings have a dot in the middle, Jags have shorter stockier legs and both species come in a melanistic variety.

What's your position on Cougars - go for the trophies or the ones with mange?

I know from experience if you declaw them they tend to bite. I don't support de-claw of big cats, you don't want them to claw or bite you.

Where is the sport in shooting something.

In an update that should be a surprise to no one, morons from areas where gyms are locked down are flooding gyms in surrounding areas. Stupid behaviour like that makes region specific lockdowns worse than nothing and Douggie will just slam the door on the whole province because some of our residents are dumb as posts.
