I'm convinced that the virus was created by The Man Upstairs to purge a whole bunch of stupid people. (I realize it has affected an awful lot of innocent bystanders in the process.)

It's not hard to tilt the balance in your favour. Be outside. Don't go to busy crowded places. Wear a mask when you have to be inside with strangers around.

Waterloo justed passed a mask bylaw that takes effect on the 13th.All of a sudden hardly anyone is wearing a mask. WTF?

You haven't been to a Walmart earlier in the pandemic?

Actually the Walmart in St Jacobs was really good. Except they don't sanitize the checkouts like the grocery stores.I try to avoid Walmart at all costs. I haven't seen a mennonite wearing a mask yet, and they come into the stores with the entire family. Be interesting to see if they wear masks next week.

What I have seen with the masks, once people are in the store they pull it down. Observed at 2 different Home Depots. ?‍♂️

I had to go to TO today. Probably 70% of people walking around outside had masks on (even if they were walking on a residential street with no sidewalk).

I suspect motivated by the new indoor requirement.

It would be just desserts if it was a simple ending though.

1/ Wear a mask and you're 100% immune.
2/ Call conspiracy theory/fake news/whatever, don't wear a mask, catch the virus, get horribly sick.

The unfortunate part with Covid is there's a very wide in between. People that wear a mask but still get sick from some doofus who didn't. And people who get Covid and have no symptoms or just mild ones thereby reinforcing their views "it's just a cold".

Don't get me started on Walmart. They are the ONLY large retailer left in Canada that still haven't enabled contactless payments on their debit terminals....so you get the job of using that scuzzy keypad that hundreds of others used before you. They say they're cleaning them regularly, but yeah, not so much.

@PrivatePilot Lowes doesn't have tap either...cashier told me it's because they're a US owned company and that's not a thing down there...

Could be wrong but I'm 95% sure the last time I went to Lowes in Whitby they did indeed have tap enabled now. But yes, Lowes and Home Depot were two of the other holdouts, but Home Depot finally enabled their tap a few months back.

Worst part about the Walmart thing is that their debit terminals HAVE the hardware for contactless. They just refuse to turn it on....and yes, it's because of parent company things, I agree...but jeezus, will someone please drag these US companies into the 2000's?

Just found out directly from Walmart that they plan to turn on tap payments sometime "This year".

I really wish that the pro mask people would stop blowing smoke out of their *****. No one is going to prove that masks are 100% effective against Corona, without committing mass murder, so please stop saying so.

At this point in time, it looks like masks may help prevent the spread, so please wear one.

Ugh. Idiots. Idiots everywhere. We feel let down as Canadian citizens because we can't travel how we want, when we want, many thousands of km's through multiple countries during a raging pandemic?

It was pretty clear in the March april timeframe that things were going to be locked down. I know many people that altered their plans to get across before the lockdown happened. It looks like these people were more focused on their plan than reality.

The couple, who has been married for four years, bought a house in Cancun earlier this year and sold their home in Kawartha Lakes in March.

At the end of April, they came to Windsor with all their belongings to drive across the border.

Alex is Canadian, while Alejandra is a permanent resident and Mexican citizen.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, U.S. Customs and Border Protection refused them entry.

While Alejandra is a Mexican citizen and could go back, she can't drive there as she doesn't have a license. The couple also said that flying and shipping all their belongings would be too expensive.

"Right now I feel a little bit let down as a Canadian citizen," Alex said. "We consider Mexico the third North American country and we should have free access."

Tons of Americans with homes and cottages here in Canada having hissy fits because they’re not being allowed into the country right now as well.

Given their situation down there right now, with all due Canadian politeness.....**** ‘em.

A non citizen living in a foreign country tends to get saddled with the responsibilities but without the rights. It's a bit like that owning industrial / commercial property here. You pay taxes and have to obey the rules but can't vote on things that affect you.

Nobody’s being forced. They could call a realestate agent and have their property sold in short order - there’s high demand for cottages right now apparently.

Personal belongings can be packed up and shipped to them.

Blunt, but these are not normal times. And the USA is not handling this pandemic well.

If we had a proper quarantine process set up (eg. go straight to a hotel and stay in your room for 14 days, you pay the bill and are free to leave at that point), I wouldn't be hugely opposed to those people crossing but we don't. The ones that did make it across ruined any chance for the rest by behaving like entitled children and doing whatever they wanted with no regard to quarantine.

Now, I have no idea about healthcare implications of US citizens entering without insurance coverage. I would have no problem with Ontario putting a lien on their property to cover the bill as they made a choice, why should we get stuck with the bill?

The only quarantine process that would be viable right now would be freakin’ GPS ankle bracelets that made sure they went to their house/cottage and STAYED there.

But I doubt even that’d work. Half of them would stop at every store between the border and their house, and then promptly have a huge house party after they arrive.

The other option that might work is a performance bond (say $250,000 per person). Gov't has the right to randomly check on you and inspect your premises during the 14 days. If, during that period you are not there or you have any visitors, you forfeit the bond and get escorted to the border. Enough would get caught to fund the program.

Just came back from Canadian Tire in Milton and all the stores in that strip plaza have signs up saying masks are mandatory...

With regards to the couple stuck in Windsor, they already sold their property in the Kawarthas and were trying to cross into the US to make their way down to Mexico...she's a permanent resident and he's a Canadian citizen...they're trying to leave, not come in to Canada...some of the responses since the post sound like they're trying to come back...
