Costco has one coming up
Moto G Play unlocked. $199.99 - $20= $179.99

The Mrs. has the equivalent of a flip phone and so rarely uses it, it's a pocket weight. I could get her on a full plan for a few dollars more than what her "pay by the call" costs.

Neither of us are app junkies but don't want flame throwers either if Moto is junk.

Should be a fine choice. Loads of inexpensive phones on the market today.
I've had good luck with blackview products available through Amazon just to provide another option.

It’s Costco…if it sucks you return it.

As for phones and her use case any run of the mill 2-3 generations back phone will do the trick if she’s open to used.

I typically buy iPhones 1-2 generations back because new phone pricing is insane.

My mom has that one. It's good enough. The camera is not as good as the flagships but the price is in a different world too.

For light users the case for having one with decent connection protocols is still high because of 2 factor authentication (which everyone should be using these days).

I carry a spare when I’m in remote Canada - I bought a cheap Bison ruggedized android phone off Amazon $110. I pop my sim into it when I head out into the wilds.
