Canada Post - Huge losses

Who is PSAC? Canada Post employees are represented by CUPW.
Looks like admin staff. May not be as big a deal as I first expected. I was thinking this was the major union. Only 1600 employees in this one.

Maybe this time a reformation will occur .

I've seen cupw's proposal for the weekend deliveries... I don't think they've budged from their original demands.. and try to suggest that a FT employee, making double time regardless if they've worked 40hrs.., can do twice as much work as a part timer.

Looks like a strike is going to happen soon, got a message from TD about a service disruption...

Why would either side settle? If libs get in, they will continue "loaning" them billions per year. Cons may stir things up but there is no way a contract can be signed before the election so that opportunity for years of protection has sailed.

On a related note.. I recently saw a business case for the purchase of the Albert Jackson facility by a private company.

CP and the union paused talks yesterday... again. Strike deadline is May 22nd... CP runs out of money.. again.. by July.

Ian Lee's thoughts... CP needs a major structural reset... major changes will have to come from Parliament.

Two opinion pieces on privatization...

IMO.. the outcome is inevitable. Stop wasting time.. and money.. make the changes, make the cuts... and be done with it.

The odds of parliament doing anything about this before summer vacation are very low imo.

No worth starting a thread over so a bit of a hijack.

I came out of retirement for a week to help straighten out a government project that had so many problems that it must have been designed by a Liberal and built by the NDP. I helped teeny bit on a dumpster fire.

Got an email from Canada Post about the potential strike if no agreement is met by May 22nd. We are warning our clients about the strike and there is a mad dash to get things printed and out to Canada Post before the potential strike hits. I personally think Canada Post needs huge reform, so many head scratching moments with Canada Post. My company is a Canada Post Partner, so we can do all the leg work in prepping routes for mailers and handle everything till it reaches a Canada Post depo. If a client gets too large, the ones we helped build up, Canada Post steps in and offers them better deals then we can. It is super irritating to know that when things get really good financially that is when they step in and take it all away.

Very American of CP.

It copies an American manufacturer that, having a desirable product, requires a distributor to carry a half million dollar inventory that provides a bit of bread and butter income. However, when a large job comes into the area the manufacturer goes direct.

As expected, union is smoking crack. The answer for everything is more public sector employees. Why not focus on productivity/value as the most important metric?

PS unions are the devil. They leech off both sides and we are rapidly approaching the point where they kill the host. Hopefully an implosion at CP puts the fear of God in the rest of them.

"Given the seriousness of the matter, it is reprehensible to keep workers and the public on edge when we should all be focused on negotiating good collective agreements that will benefit workers and grow our public service to meet the needs of all Canadians,” it added"
