Canada Post - Huge losses

I'm on a corner lot...just hoping none of my property gets expropriated for this (mind you it would probably be on City of Mississauga property) but the level of garbage / discarded junk mail on my front yard will suck.
They probably won't do a corner for super box unless it's set back from the intersection. I'm sure they will implement a team of people with many layers of consultation to figure something out like this, and probably an external consultant as well.....
ya know because it's gov project.. :sneaky:

The side street is quiet. While he wouldn't like it, the side street is a great location for a box. Minimal traffic and a loop at the end to allow people to enter and exit easily without backing up.

When do the layoffs begin I wonder.

Honestly at this rate I'm surprised smart people even have kids anymore...
I think they are reducing the size of the workforce thru attrition first.

Layoffs maybe happen at retail outlets, but carriers will retire faster than super box conversions.

Superboxes are a start. To that we should add delivery only 2.5 times a week (first week MWF, second week TT).
In today's world who needs daily delivery?
That would hurt Canada Post parcel delivery business. Competitors are delivery parcels 7 days.
All Xpress Post letter etc mail would be negatively impacted. Customers need their stuff yesterday.

Parcels could still be many days a week. Letter mail/flyers more than once a week for residential is mostly a waste (but may be necessary to deliver more frequently as there is not enough storage upstream).

The full list of affected postal codes in the first batch to be converted to community mailboxes are:

  • Moncton and Riverview, N.B.: E1B, E1C, E1E, E1G.
  • Sept-Îles, Que.: G4R, G4S.
  • La Prairie and Candiac, Que.: J5R.
  • Ottawa: K1B, K1G, K1H, K1J, K1K.
  • Etobicoke, Ont.: M9V, M9W.
  • Winnipeg: R2P, R2R, R2V, R2W, R2X, R3E, R3H.
  • Abbotsford, B.C.: V2S, V2T.
  • Mission, B.C.:V2V
  • North Vancouver and West Vancouver: V7M, V7P, V7R, V7S, V7T, V7V, V7W.

Letter mail weekly would be lots.

The ONLY documents I still get by mail for some reason are:

- insurance documents
- TD statements after repeated attempts to go online
- CRA cheques for my wife for the kids

All of those can be converted to online / direct banking.

Businessess pay alot of money for their lettermail to be delivered on a expedient timely manner. If Canada Post can't meet the business expectation they would want lower cost or they would choose a different courier. Negatively effectiving Canada Post Revenue.

I wonder if they will have a system banning junk mail if one requests it. I wonder if one can 'opt out' of a mailbox? I'd love to be that guy
Yes there is. You put a note in you mail box asking not to recieve any un-adressed admail (junkmail). At the station the letter carrier rely the info to the supervisor and then put a little red sticker on your address. No more junkmail. In the future any mail that do not have an address on it will not be delivered to you.

You want the price lower when they are already losing billions? Most of the crap businesses send already includes clauses that it is due when it is due and they don't care when you get it. Most businesses that want it delivered quickly are already using some form of upgraded shipping and not a stamp and pray.

The expectation for Canada Post from businessess, lettermail service local 2days, provincial 3days, Canada 4days. Business would want a lower cost if they are getting longer delivery time.
So, basically Canada Post has two customers, customer A is sending the parcel/mail and customer B is receiving the parcel/mail.
Canada Post does not want loose customer A by lowering delievery time. Some might think that recieving "junkmail" on time and on certain day or if at all is not a big deal. Well, it's a big deal, actually it's a huge deal for Canada Post and Customer A. Lets say a well known fast food company is have a promotion and discount coupons, there is the TV, radio ads, gotta get the food ready, the printing. Plans are made months inadvance. Promotions and coupons have to be dilivered on a certain date, not before and not after.
On smaller scale, a realtor is having an open house next weekend in the area. So it's curcial for the realtor phamlet of the open house to be delieverd quickly. How do you keep customers A and B while reducing services.

If people are that time sensitive and using CP, they are dumb. The vast majority of people are only checking infrequently. Tbh, I don't know of a single person that checks their box daily. Even the inlaws with a box beside their front door often have mail accumulate for days before emptying it.
