Boat Rentals

Meanwhile I may have bought half a Limestone ( the built by Hinterholler version) to do the Trent/severn and Rideau . I’m a very slow learner . At least the guy I’m partnering with is flush with cash and treats things better than most .

Nice boat. I spent some time on a friends 24, he runs salmon charters out Ashbridges.

His 88 is as sound today as when he got it. Repowered s couple of times (original merc 5.7l was a thirsty girl, I think he’s running 4.3 after hus last repiwer). It’s been a solid, near maintenance free hull.

The 24 is a bit cramped up front, but I kinda like the galley bedroom setup as you’re out back most of the time.

That was our exact thoughts , we will run the original Merc till it’s done , if we still own it a Yanmar will go in . Eighty five hp turbo deisel will run forever going forward . Boat was just under thirty k so lots of room to improve things . Anchor windlass is first on the list , lewmar makes a perfect low profile winder .

I if I recall, there’s no anchor locker up front in a Limestone 24. Does Lewmar make a winch style anchor windlass?

Personally I’m not fond of the winch rollers, they don’t play nice with the chain rode.

Lewmar makes a low profile vertical instead of horizontal ( side ways not over top ) winch. Gypsy is a combo chain / three strand . We will pop in a hole for a Howser line and build a fiberglass box inside the pointy bow which is waste space anyway . As long as calibrated metric chain is used they are very effective. I’ve sketched up a stainless plate that will go to a bow roller with a groove for the chain and high cheeks to keep the chain centered. The plate running between the winch and roller keeps the chain from bouncing on gel coat , and looks shiney . I think we can get away with switches at the helm and not need foot controls at the bow ( less holes ) since it’s a pretty small boat . Buddy says let’s just get a remote control so we can do whatever, so maybe .

I found the Severn the most boring, the Trent the friendliest and the Rideau the most beautiful and interesting, except for the D boats.

I’ve heard the Rideau is the most scenic and has a lot of history to see . That appeals to me . Pottering along at six miles an hour will make it feel like my sailboat ….

The Trent was built as a commercial canal while the Rideau was military. While the Trent has been modernized with hydraulics the Rideau is gears and winches and the lockmaster's quarters are mini forts not little houses.

Try not to get stuck overnight at the lock near Kingston as it's near the 401 and a RR track.

Looking to rent a small (10-12ft) fishing boat. Aluminum or jon boat that can fit into or atop the Maverick mid Sept…or with a trailer that can go off road for a few hundred metres.

If anyone has a line on one please let me know. 4-5 days.

I assume the Express version with the tall cabin and smaller cockpit? Not a lot of hiding space in a normal one, just a single cozy berth. If it's the Express, that's a lot of boat for a motor under 5 litres. I looked at repowering my 20 out of curiosity, and rebuilt 5.7's with the twin barrel carb seemed to be the best value. Considering it already had a rebuilt 5.7 with a twin barrel carb, I didn't bother.

Handles better at slow speed with a Bravo outdtive, but either way, will wander a lot at low speed. The broad beam and the massive transom with a relatively flat hull towards the stern means you have to pay attention at the wheel when going slow.

The flip side is that broad beam means the boat isn't tender at all, even with three adults leaning over one side and nobody on the other.

Nice boat regardless. Post up some pics of the refit as it goes along. There's a Limestone Facebook group that's semi active, and if you need parts, they might be able to help. Medeiros still has contacts for some of the parts suppliers they used, but not sure if that extends back to the even older Hinterhoeller boats...

You don’t need a lot of power unless you need a lot of speed. I had an ocean going 24 express cruiser with a Volvo 140 douprop. 22 knots was top cruising speed at 7gph. WOT was 25 and 10gph. 60 gallons gave me a cruising range of 200 miles.

Initial mileage tests are thirty four gal per hour at WOT . She’ll go to the Rideau on the trailer behind the diesel Suburban .

That’s heavy on fuel. My 32 Marinette drank 33gph at a Limestone 24 WOT speed

At my top speed, 42mph, I consumed 44gph. This was not wot because I ran out of speed before WOT.

I hope you’re talking US gallons!

FYI, lockage through the Rideau and Trent Severn is free until September 2 as part of the Canada Strong program. Mooring is still at the regular rates. From what I've seen from the seat of my kayak, the locks are getting a bit swamped with traffic on the weekends.
I hope the free part doesn't include US boats.
