I avoid Samsung appliances
Not the first time I've heard bad feedback/reviews about Samsung appliances!
If I had the disposable income, I'd get Miele - but the regular American brands are good enough for now, lol
I avoid Samsung appliances
Unless it comes with an operator, I'm not interested. In Kenya, that method is actually a hell of a lot cheaper and more reliable than any electric machine.View attachment 46128You can get this brand new model for $50, delivered!
Yep, the belt on mine melted through the plastic pulley. Got rid of the matching washer when they recalled them and went to LG which has been rock solid for 4-5 years now knock on wood.Samsung? I had a Samsung dryer a few years ago that we bought new, and within two years it started squealing like crazy. Turns out the idler pulley is just a plastic wheel directly on a metal arm, no bearings, no sleeve, nothing. Over time, the grease wears/dries out, and it ends up being bare plastic on metal. All to save $0.50 on some sort of bearing. Total junk.
That same house had a Samsung side-by-side fridge that had a poorly routed defrost drain hose that would plug and cause ice to build up around the fan that blew cold air from the freezer to the fridge. Required defrosting at least twice a year. Had a mechanic look at it, and he walked in the door, took one look, and said to toss the fridge. Known issue, and impossible to fix because the drain hose is buried in insulation.
Needless to say, I avoid Samsung appliances now. Not that anyone makes anything reliable anymore. And they change models and design annually so it's impossible to track reliability. No consumer item has degraded more in quality over the last 40 years than large appliances. Not everything was better in the 'good old days', but Inglis and Viking appliances sure were...

I put a new belt on the dryer at the in-laws cottage. Age unknown but we we think that was the first repair required in ~40 years.Yep, the belt on mine melted through the plastic pulley. Installation is easy.It sounds like I'm getting roped into installing a new dishwasher for a friend. I don't have a dishwasher and haven't put one in for decades. I don't recall anything overly complex.
Friend is also asking about best brands. My limited research says Miele and Bosche are cheaper over the long run with guaranteed parts availability for 15 years.
Any thoughts or recommendations?

Some dishwashers are hardwired, some are plugged in, some are convertible with a kit. Make sure what you have matches what you need. Fwiw, bosch hardwire kit likes to burn so I would only plug in a Bosch.
Is this a replacement or from scratch? There are a few more complications if you are adding one where there was never one before.
