Apparently it's 100% legal to have Body Armour

I haven't seen anyone ask yet so maybe this is a stupid question... why is it illegal to own body armour of any kind? Is it because law enforcement wants to ensure they can take you out if they really want to? I really can't think of any other reason.

More or less. Police want to have the advantage at all times

My cop friend used to give me their expired vests for "target practice" at the range. In the courtroom they hung up one of my target practice vests on one of those xray light box viewing things. They clicked the switch on, huge gasp from the courtroom as the light shone through the vest like swiss cheese. The judge asked the RCMP officer "Sir, what guns did he own that could do THAT to a bullet proof vest?!??" ... the RCMP officer flips through the two or three pages of guns that were seized from my residence... "Well your honour, it would be quicker for me to read you the guns he owned that COULDN'T do that to a bullet proof vest!!" the courtroom erupts, the judge smashes her binder down on the desk. BAIL, DENIED.

People are so ignorant. Most rifles can pass through those. Even a hunting rifle

82 charges in total, too many to list. Import without authority x 19, import prohibited device x 50, etc. etc. It was reverse onus, not fun for bail, not fun for trial.

Tell me about it :( .22LR high velocity 40 grain plated round nose would cut through any vest I tried (just didn't make big holes like the .308 steel core ammo did). 9mm never went through the vests, even the .45acp "cop killer" bullets wouldn't go through (left big dents in the plates though), but as you said, most rifles do! Even the fat 7.62x39 AK47 type rounds go through it like butter, such a nice "thump thump thump" from those rounds. Not sure I ever tried .223/5.56 on it.

lol :) I used a random username generator and it "spit that out", thought it was funny so I used it :D

The problem is that most laws are written by the ignorant for the ignorant without consulting those who know better.

Just shows what people don't know about armour. So called bullet proof vests are calld fragmentation vests in the real world. Worn ICW plate. L3+ will stop AK-47 and 5.56 but they won't stop 7.62 NATO under 300M. Maybe one round but the follow up's going through. Lvl 4 is good up to AP 30-06 but you can't garentee it will take multiple hits. The really expensive ones do but eventually they shatter. You can also ruin ceramics (L4) by dropping them hard enough on their edge, kinda like dropping a helmet hard enough.

I'd like to see what one would do against my .338 rounds but I'm pretty shure it wouldn't survive the first hit. Too expensive to experiment with.

I've seen a test video of various armour plates from AR-500 steel coated with some stuff that traps fragments to some new-age light thick material that even floats. All 3 specimens took multiple direct hits from 5.56x45, 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 without penetration. Amazing stuff, but the stuff that floats would rape your wallet without Vaseline and the AR-500 is too heavy to lug around for regular use outside of war zones.

Cool video, would like to see that inside a carrier though

LOL I remember the stupidity surround those. Winchester Black Talon. Were supposed to penetrate vests that would otherwise stop the same round of "normal" bullets. Had no effect on penetration whatsoever but they banned them anyway. Then, Winchester put the Supreme SXT on the market (joking called same xact thing) and nobody said a word. I suppose it was because S SXT wern't Black.

There was a case where a guy went on a rampage with black talons. Turned out that all the organ damage was from sheer penetration and any other round fired in the exact same spots would have had the exact same effects. Now, they do improve the stopping power of the round by a lot, but there's no way they can penetrate decent condition body armor. 7.62x25 would work on some lighter armor, though. It's a high velocity, small projectile, abandoned by many of the the ex Comblock law enforcement agencies due to overpenetration issues.

What about an AN 94? DROPS 2 shots before recoil is even felt. Meaning 2 shots would land in the exact spot. First one weakens armour, 2nd penetrates. Bye bye armour

You play too much Battlefield 3.

Worth a double points score in COD when powning noobs?

5.45X39 is a lower lvl threat then what L4 plate can take multiple hits from. It's also a poor round as far as in flight stabalization goes so it hits it's target off it's center of flight line, meaning it's good for making a bigger hole in soft skinned people and and worse for going through their plates.

It's also (the AN 94) too expensive to ever see mass production and too unreliable to become a general service weapon. Russian SOF have a name for them.

дерьмо

Good way to go through twice as much ammo to make yourself combat ineffective though.
