Anyone here a cyclist?

I like my gravel bike a lot. I like trails on my mountain bike but I do not like/cannot stand ridiculous climbs (to me) to get to said trails or during trails. I get zero joy out of it and I'm too completely wiped to put proper focus into the downhill section. So, I'm looking at EMTBs to help with climbs.

Getting a bit confused with mid power vs full power and all that jazz. Anyone know? I'm not looking for a moped with pedals. I've seen this…

Would that fit the bill? Our local park allows EMTBs but not fully motorized ones.
I got out for a few miles of trail yesterday and almost got hit by a trio of powered unicycles in a "No Motorized Vehicles" Trail. They weren't going slow.

The Vespa look alike E Scooters seem to be fading out and replaced by various bicycle looking models. Hard to tell at a glance what they are with hub motors and batteries in frames.

Yeah, even on my fairly remote suburbs trails I've seen a few of those one-wheelers in full moto gear. They’re going at pretty high speeds, so a crash could be pretty bad, but to be honest, I haven’t seen or heard of any accidents yet.

Apparently the “trail poaching” by the unrestricted mopeds vs the pedal powered restricted speed bikes is an issue. I can see this leading to bans on all electric bikes on some trails.

Got a small decal on the back of my cycling helmet "no E just me"
Some days its like a old man yelling at a cloud deal.
Not hating on battery's just riding for exercise and i don't have all day to get it done.

It can't be soon enough IMO. The speed, mass and limited control makes it dangerous for other trail users. No insurance or registration ices the cake.

That's the biggest issue but there's also the problem that more powerful vehicles chew up the trails. I know our local MTB trail system is very careful when it comes to trail maintenance. Pedal powered e-bikes have a limiter on them. Some can be overridden but that also invalidates the warranty.

A friend has an off-road stand-up scooter that will do 85 KPH but he's only been up to 70. I've read him the riot act.

Is anyone able to recommend a relatively good, road bike that i could buy used from Facebook Marketplace?

I used to MTB so i know what to look for when it comes to specs. For roadbikes i don't really know what to look for.

I would just use it to commute 30 or so minutes each way every now and then or go for a morning ride for some exercise.

I know bikes get expensive but, just looking for something under $600 used if possible. Don't care about carbon or top of the line specs at the moment.

I just don't know what make/model to be looking for. For mountain biking i used to have a Giant Trance, Canyon Spectral, and Rocky Mountain Instinct - all brands were pretty good in their own way so i have no loyalty to one brand or another.

Fit is even more important on a road bike than a MTB because you remain in one position longer.

Given the choice I recommend people pick the comfort version over the race version (eg Specialized Roubaix instead of Tarmac). Mortals won't get many of the positives of the race bike and are stuck with the negatives.

Compact crank is better for most people as it's hard to push a full-size chainring without a group to break the wind.

Road bikes seem to hold value much better than mtb.

I wouldn't be too concerned about brands. Obviously 105 or better would be ideal for components but I doubt you'll get there at $600 so that's not a big consideration.

Pinkbike used to be good a a place to look. I haven't looked for a bike in a long time though.

Edit:
If you have a 29er, you can install 700x28 or 700x35 tires and have an awesome commuter for cheap. I'm partial to gatorskinz for commuters as they are super durable.

I bought a gravel bike from Decathlon and it was a painless experience. It has pretty good specs and was cheaper than the competition. Have a look there.

Decathlon is also leaving the country (for retail, they will keep an online store for now) so they may have discounts. There is a decathlon store near wonderland. Iirc boots is in vaughan.

Crap, I didn't know that. They are a huge name in Europe and they sponsor a tour team too. I was happy to see they had some bricks and mortar stores in Canada.

Wynnebag probably got a truckload of cash from Emmo. There is no other reasonable explanation for the specs Ontario allowed for dui mobiles.
Typical government stuff. Half-truths are worse than lies in that the reader cherry picks what they want to hear.

No license or insurance required BUT

Can't have a DUI license suspension

Province may say yes but municipalities must also approve.

Financially responsible for at fault damage

No medical benefits

Age and speed restrictions

On road not sidewalk

More but who cares.
