Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

The 'affordable' Chinese EVs are 1/4 of the way to the quota already...

63% of them above 35k
27% of them below 35k

Shocking that this didn't bring in the affordable EVs everyone was expecting LOL

Hate to play devils advocate but if you are forced to limit the number of units that you sell who in their right mind would ship low margin stock?

100% I agree. And my point was always that the cheap units won't be making it over here.

If they do list for low prices, dealers will just do a 'market adjustment price' and add thousands to the MSRP in order to milk the customers.

Capitalism at work folks.

Selling the higher end cars will also hopefully for the maker create a halo effect for the brand, think reverse of Yugo...

Looking at vehicles. I think we have two circuits that the jacuzzi tub is on that could be repurposed for charging. Before we were looking only at hybrids, but now we have more leeway. Any current picks?

A bit like the used car market. New out the door is $60 K. You can save 20% by buying used but financing rate is higher. Time under warranty is shorter. Colour choice. Was it a daily rental? It doesn't smell new and of course, the "What if" factor.

Why buy used or low end.

It used to be that low end had fewer things to go wrong and fix but even low end cars today have lots of things that fail and you can't diagnose or fix them without involving the mother ship..

There is a real race for the low price here - that price is all in taxes etc.

Red one kinda nice

There is no auto industry anymore to protect here and no numbers restrictions for imports.

Plug in hybrid isn’t a bad option. We do quite a bit of running around on battery alone and reverts to hybrid when doing longer drives.

Not bad looking IMO but remember the Hyundai Pony of the mid 1980s.

It looked like good deal at the time but it didn't take long before it became a cheaply built cheaply sold car for poor people. Status was negative.

Poor R&D from Hyundai didn't help.

Noted: Cloth seats but leather shift knob and steering wheel cover, possibly bonded.

I’m pretty sure the lotus was available before the import deal.. it just cost twice as much.
It makes sense that certain brands would arrive first.. the ones already having approvals, supply and dealer networks, etc.. set up.

Equinox and Mach E would be good. No major issues and well-liked by owners that I know. Blazer EV if you want more leg-room in the back and Optiq or Lyric if you want to splurge. Prologue is an orphan but I like mine. Downside to GM or Ford is that they aren't fast chargers like 800v architecture vehicles.

Niro EV is small and long in the tooth but it's been solid the last 10 months for us. FIAT 500e if you just want to run local errands and like the fear/exhilaration of being dwarfed by pickup trucks.

KIA EV3 and EV5 are nice but new models so might have teething issues. Hyundai is basically same platforms.

16/20/24 amp 240V service is plenty if you're not emptying the battery daily. I regularly set the charger to 16 amp if I only need to top-up overnight. Keeps the heat down in the garage and the vehicles aren't running pumps and fans to cool the battery, that's just wasted energy anyways.

I'd look into planning a visit here: Electric Vehicle Discovery Centre - Plug'n Drive Canada and see if anything stands out, plus you can get a lot of questions answered from the pros while you test-drive.

I've seen a couple of Prologues recently (maybe Honda has great deals on them??) but I like them a lot.

1 advantage they have over the GM version (Blazer) is Honda stayed with Android Auto while GM dropped it for Android Automotive (which has no phone mirroring a la Android Auto).

Checked my charging history at lunch and saw this. Not good, hitting 80C on the 14-50 plug for my charger and de-rating. Need to check it out tonight.

Also was informed that a workmate takes possession of a new Cadillac Optic Friday. Payments are half when factoring in gas to travel in to work from the County. Another one to add in the parking lot.

Apparently Honda tuned the suspension on the Prologue and reviews say it's more Honda-like compared to the Blazer which they feel is harsher.

I use Apple Carplay on the Prologue, it's been pretty flawless and with the latest Android OS update I can now watch YouTube, Amazon Prime etc on the dash while parked.

Only thing I've added to the vehicle is a rear sway bar from the Blazer EV SS, It's 28mm vs 19mm that cut back on the body roll in turns/curves but keeps the same plush ride.

If the Prologue got totaled tomorrow I'd probably get an Optiq. The dash is phenomenal and I don't really need the rear leg room, the dogs don't care about that.

My plug never gets hot but the car end does

Wife is starting to seriously consider the Equinov EV and every time she sees one she likes it more and more. I'll book a test drive once this busy season finishes up in the next few weeks.

Love the Odyssey but it seems so wasteful to use such a large vehicle when 90% of the time she's driving alone to/from work in Burlington.

Plus we'd also save $60/month automatically as she won't need to pay for the HOT pass.

If the kids fit relatively well within the back row...I think it's the top runner for her. For me...my eyes are still set on the Mach-E as the next replacement for the Maverick (unless Ford pulls a small EV truck as they plan), or I can justify buying the F150L.
