Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Took the equinox Windsor and back today was a good experience. I let it drive home a bit strange not touching the steering wheel from Windsor to Cambridge but good overall. The one thing it does not do well at is anticipating when someone will change lanes. It did its own lane change etc very smoothly. As expected the super cruise does not work in heavy rain like on the way there.
Charged at the on route and in Windsor just to get a feel for how to use charging stations big speed difference between supposed identical charges the one in Woodstock charged at 80kw the one in Tilbury at 40kw and the shell one in Windsor at 60kw. En route rates are high at 70c kwh vs shell at 40c. The one charge in Windsor would have been enough but we stopped to get the kids food and washroom break so tried the other chargers. Happy with it so far and wife is less concerned about the range after today's drive.

Good to hear! How roomy is the back seat?

We’re in 3 booster seat mode currently so the width of rear seat is the biggest consideration.

Back is quite roomy I would think 3 booters would fit fine. We are down to 1 booster soon to be none. The EV is bigger than the gas version. Feel free to check it out sometime.

That 40 kW seems low at Tilbury. Electrify Canada? Do you know if you were temp limited or just in the upper charge range of the battery? I get about 96 kW max out of a 180 kW EC charger and about 130 kW max out of their 350 kW units. Nearing 80% charge the rate will drop to low 60's. Past 80% it really starts to plummet.

Ultium vehicles like ours are amperage limited to around 500 amps. So multiply vehicle battery voltage by charging cable amperage rating to get max output. Some Shell units are only 200 amp cable-rated, so you'll see maybe 60-70 kW max output from that charger.

A 350 kW unit with a 500 amp cable will be faster, but the Ultium charge curve is still a bit lower than some other manufacturers. I'm fine with it though, just plan my stops around it.

My preferred stop south of the GTA is the Tesla Superchargers in Ingersoll. They can max output, have pull through spots and lots of places to eat nearby. If you get the Plugshare app, you can find out a lot of info and get pics of charger locations with it.

If you're dead-set against using Tesla the EC units in London at the Canadian Tire work well, just more of a PITA to get to and they can be pretty busy at times. Last time I charged there we just walked across the road to Jack Astor's for a bite to eat, it was lunchtime anyways.

It was the ivy at the en route should not have been limited at all. The car was at 30 percent and +15 outside. It was a 100 amp charger but much slower than the London en route 100a charger under similar conditions on the way back.

Yeah, Ivy sucks, even their new Kempower installs like you find in Trenton aren't all that great as they load share power and you'll get dropped way down if all bays are full. Tilbury units are only 100 kW so 40 sounds about right. There's faster EC chargers at the Tilbury CanTire but there's nothing around for amenities.

Optimal battery charging temp is around 28C. You probably already know this but the vehicle will automatically turn on battery temp pre-conditioning if a charger destination is selected in Navigation or you can turn it on manually in settings.

Takes a while to bring it up to temp though and it's a 6 kW heater so you'll burn battery capacity to warm it up. Nowhere near as much energy to cool it down though unless ambient is way above that.

Yep. I've been with Pion since January. Already at 1 Megawatt, but that's for both vehicles. Charger was a bit of a PITA to get connected to my wifi but it's ran well since then. They had to do an OTA update to fix a couple of bugs and they were fast to respond through the app. I pay 3.8 cents/kW overnight rate but they say they'll pay out 10 cents at the end of this year. Fine print says that can change though.

Ok I will order today they only have the newer chargers available now. 419 for the 40amp.
