Long day of driving yesterday. I used Superchargers for the trip because of the cost (.40/KWh) and convenience with trailer parking. About a 1000 km round trip and total charging costs were $95. I kept the speed around 100-105 Km/h. I made 6 charging stops and total time was 170 minutes.
Not a lot of range when you only charge to 80% (68 kWh) and a strong headwind heading back from Ingersoll killed it further. I had to stop in Tilbury at an Electrify Canada station to put in 14KW for the last 50km even though I charged to 80% in Ingersoll. That's only 160 Km between the two. I had cruise set to 105 as well. I suspect that drop ramp at the back of the trailer was a giant sail.
Total towing weight was around 700kg. Felt it but vehicle still had a lot of pull. Front motor temp never went above 58C and it helped keep the battery warm for fast charging as they share the same coolant system. I had cabin heat set to 22C and that also pulled power.
Recap:
1000Km
6 charge stops
140 minutes total charge time + 30 minutes setup/drive to.
$95 cost
15 hours total.
I arrived home with only 10% battery so I also had to charge back up.
I think if I had to do it again I would seriously consider just borrowing my mate's Pacifica. That was a long day.
