Almost got killed on the 401

I was on the 401 westbound from DVP today around 7:20.

I was going about 130 in the center lane and this truck pulling a boat changes lanes right into me.

I then went into the left passing lane and he keeps coming into that lane.

I ended up on the shoulder and slowed down to save myself.

I was hard on the horn the whole time but it wasn't until I was almost behind him on the shoulder did he stick his arm out the window as if to say sorry or where did you come from.

Scared the crap out of me as this guy was flying, pulling a boat while going like 130-140 swerving all over.

There was another bike just ahead of me which this truck wanted to pass but I don't think he saw what happened

Unfortunately, you could have super-bright flashing strobe-lights and a 15000-decibel horn, and most inattentive/clueless cagers such as this one would still put your life at risk. Believe me, I have a Stebel horn and what I'd consider very visible gear & motorcycle, and I still have tried just about anything and everything short of purposely ramming into someone to get their attention when these things have happened, and sometimes it's still not enough.

Only thing you can take away from this is that no matter how safe you ride, others on the road will always be a serious threat to you. Just keep yourself aware and conscious of all your surroundings, always watch for escape routes, and use them when you need them.

Close calls, although unnerving, are lessons we can all learn from. Glad you are ok.

Drive defensively.

Thankfully you are alright. At least you were aware of your surroundings and knew you could slide into the left lane.
It pays to know who is around you at all times in case you need to make an evasive manouver.
Cagers are not aware 100% of the time.
Yesterday I blew my rear tire on the 401 near port hope going 130. Luckily I'm still alive and unharmed and was able to pull over to right shoulder

happens more and more all the time, expecting it doesnt help, where is the guy who has never been cut off when you need him :)

Great post. Exactly.. There are so many bad or distracted drivers and riders here that you need to always be watching out.

Can you share what happened? I am actually going to start a blown tire thread. So please look for it. This way we don't hijack this. I want some more info on this. I think a lot riders can benefit hearing some real life experience.

Happened to the most of us...
Some cagers simply don't check their mirrors/blind spots. Always assume they DON'T SEE YOU.

Glad you are ok.

Yes I will post in your new thread

Business as usual. Don't think I would have even given this guy the finger.
This is mild, compared to some of the crap I see on a daily basis.
Move on.

1. De-attach his boat
2. Attach boat to bike
3 ....
4. Free boat.

i actually saw a boat on the 401 westbound express pulled over on the side about 615. it was a big azz boat... like there was room for people below deck and stuff, not just a regular speed type boat. it was 2 3 times the size of the truck. maybe thats why it was on the side of the road perhaps.

how big was the boat OP?

Hi viz gear wouldn't help against in-attentiveness & blindspots. Only defensive riding helps. Ask yourself "what if"

Sent from my tablet using my paws

I ask myself that question everyday. Results may vary.

I dont want to jinx myself. I found what works for me & have been doing it awhile. I only get wtf moments when i'm being a hooligan
