Very cool Mike. I stayed up in Attawapiskat for 2 weeks a long time ago. Quite the interesting place it was.

Doesn’t look like much snow up there. How cold was it?

There is about 2’ of hardpack on the ground, it’s been 0c the last couple of days which really compresses the powder. That’s remarkably warm for Feb, I’m used to highs of -25, lows down to -35.

I fly into the James and Hudson Bay costal communities a for a week or two at a time, mostly Atta.

What would bring you to a place like this?

Did a school exchange thing. I stayed there for 2 weeks and had a kid my age from up there stay at my place for 2 weeks. I learned about sniffing glue up there - never knew it was a thing until then:)
That was probably the introduction to my downward spiral lol.

Working on my packing list for our trip out west in a few weeks. I have a lot of packing lists from previous trips but each trip tends to be a little different, and this one is no different in that once I get out west on my solo leg, I'll be meeting my wife in Edmonton and we'll be riding 2up for our BC adventure before I drop her off again in either Edmonton or Calgary, and then I cannonball home solo again.

We will be primarily doing hotels/motels and not doing any of our own food prep (unlike most other trips with my usual riding buddies) so there will be no cooking gear needed...

Lol... Your first comment had me second guessing my own cognitive decline... "Did I already start a thread about this already"

For me, it's tunes. I really enjoy listening to music while riding, especially on long trips.
For the longest time I just used my phone with earbuds, but last season I bought a $89 media player offa da Amazon... It has Spotify on it as well as a regular mp3 player...

It works/sounds awesome and unlike my phone, 'fits into my jacket pocket.
'Paired to my Chubby Buttons controller it's easy to mute or scroll through files.

My other recently discovered necessity... Neck gators.
I can't believe I've been riding for so many years without.

Padded shorts is mine. Last year I did a 1200km dayride and at the end of it was fresh enough that I could have done it again the next day. And that was on a stock KTM seat!
My second item would be a rechargeable battery pack (for phone, helmet comms, etc).
Number three would be a rechargeable tire inflator.

Tank bag. Snaps or zips right off, has essentials in it, can pick up things at a stop and stuff it in there. Map pocket for larger area than gps
 
If you plan to be in the Rideau Lakes Area this year or next the Brass Point Bridge on the Burnt Hills Road
will be closed for reconstruction for the 2026-2027 riding season.
This closure is near the Hwy 15 end so no thru traffic.
However the ride from TR11 to the bridge and back is well worth the side trip. 15km

Accommodations: @Mad Mike’s house in timmins, free - space for 4 riders.
Experience: must be able to do 800km over 8 hrs. Handle romps at 120kmh, pee breaks at 3 hrs.
Extras: fishing excursion on Porcupine lake for pike and pickerel (bring fishing licence, boat, rods and tackle provided)

status/update? New killer should make the trip.
 
May be answering my own question. Squeeze checked the long range forecast and Timmins could be getting snow on the 18th......

Im gonna schedule another ride later in the season. I’ve never seen snow like this. It’s still over my front deck, 9’ on one side of my driveway.

This was yesterday out my front window. The deck is 5 steps up from the grass, the snow is over the railing by 2’.

The last 2 years I rode between Markham and timmins the first weekend of April.

This snow will last well into May.

Sad because my grass is already green in Markham.
