Practice! Sometimes I practice at longer red lights. Tiny bit of brake, just to keep the brake light on. Let out the clutch real sloooooow until the bike starts moving. Clutch in, push back, repeat. Then when the light turns to green, you'll already have a feel for where the friction zone is.
