2026 Rides

Clear, I rode from Porcupine-Iroquois Falls-Cochrane then back to Timmins today. Roads are clear of sand, spring repairs on potholes are done.

It’s as good as it’s gonna get!
Hey Mike have you been up towards Aubrey Falls or around Elliot Lake area at all recently?

I'm thinking of heading up there and wondering how the TransCanada and the southern portion of the 129 are.
Here's the route: Google Maps

Mattawa to the 144 is good, haven’t been west of the 144. Generally roads in the north are good now. Washouts and potholes are fixed or marked, roads are clear of winter sand.

533 to Mattawa is good - drove that a few weeks back.

Been over 10 years since I was up near Mattawa, so looking forward to it. And I always pass by the Elliot Lake area on the TC, but never head up that way, so that will be a new one for me.

Something about Elliot Lake, I found it to be a very depressing town. I don't know why exactly. They do have a nice look out though.

HWY 69 is a mixed bag, it reduces down to 1 lane each way, and lower speeds, which causes some congestion. I'm sue you must be aware of it.

This a day ride or a over nighter?

Thanks - this is a day ride, starting from my buddies cottage and then helping another buddy hit the 1000mile mark. So not planning on stopping very much:)

Took the bike out for the first time this season. Street riding has reduced quite a bit and was the topic of thought during the ride. My usual season opener route is the river rd run. 400 up north, exit at King, ride country roads to hockley, mono, river rd, and back. I used to go up to Creemore, but opted not to this time.

I see there are other threads going around on this topic, but wtf is wrong with drivers in gta. Absolute lack of regard for rules. Sitting 2 inches away from my brake lights to a car trying to share a lane with me (I was in the blocking position and this car cut across a solid white line from the other side - zip merging in traffic). At least 4-5 instances of risky driving which was too close for comfort for me, and that too (I believe) knowingly. Unfortunately, I feel, it's only going to go downhill from here.

Managed exactly 1 pic from the ride.

Went out yesterday to meet up with a bunch of Honda ST riders at the Iron Rooster in Marmora. Felt great to be out by 8:30 and home by 5:00, around 380 km. Dodged the showers in the morning with maybe 3 raindrops. On the way home I got into couple of 10 min showers bit it was warm and I dried off. The wind was brutal though on the way home. Only one pic though. Guess what the favourite colour was?

Hey, I saw you guys at the meet yesterday!

Is your picture photoshopped though? This was the photo I took. It looks a bit different from the one you posted:

I don’t remember the no dog part of the sign.

Lots of the ST riders have move on to the FJR1300 though.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day. Did a 2up to the west of the city. The last time I did that route was 4-5 years back on my sv. To niagara and from there to old fort eerie. There was a 1812 war re-enactment at fort eerie, so stayed for that. Pretty cool.

That route happens to be one of the most serene and peaceful routes for me (albeit short) that if I get a weekend to myself, I'm planning to do it again.

What was the route? Although sharing it might erase the peaceful part.

My preferred route is NOTL to Chippawa, and to Old Fort Eerie alongside the water. Something like this.

But yesterday skipped NOTL and rode to the falls directly and then followed the niagara river pkwy to Chippawa and to Fort Eerie. :)

Thanks. I keep wanting to get that way. I attended a wedding many years ago and during the picture taking we took off to explore the area and thought I have to come back by m/c.

It's a nice cruise. Mostly find cruisers along the way and understandably so. Would recommend on a day when you're feeling like taking it easy.

It's a nice road to take. Especially if you have never done it. From Niagara to Fort Erie is the best as you are right next to the water.
Great for weekday runs, maybe not so much on weekends as Niagara can be jammed.

Riding the Guzzi on River Road, just north of Caesarea, Ontario, a rural area, around 7:00pm on Wednesday, lovely conditions. Going about 80km/h, minding my own business, no one around for miles, when quite suddenly something very big, brown, and with feathers appeared in front of my face. It came out of nowhere. Incoming! I ducked and braced for impact. A split second later, and nothing. I popped back up with a sigh of relief, only to find his buddy following. I only had time to drop my chin. The bird pounded the top of my helmet with an incredibly violent thud. I don't know what became of him, but I don't imagine it was survivable.

I was okay, and continued slowly, assessing the situation. All appeared well at first glance, but then I discovered the GPS mount had been flipped 90°. And the GPS itself? Gone! I slowly rode back and forth, but it was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Other than the GPS and a mirror slightly askew, there was no evidence whatsoever of the incident. No feathers, no blood, nothing. No marks on the helmet. I had a smaller bird strike in the face last fall; at least he was good enough to leave a couple of feathers.

I don't what kind of bird it was. Many, many times larger than a sparrow, for example, but not as big as a turkey. So, perhaps a hawk or a small owl?

The new, and absurdly expensive, GPS arrives in the mail today.

If anyone stumbles upon a battered Garmin GPS in the ditch on River Road, it's mine!

Whoa, at first reading this felt like one of those jokes with a long setup and a twist at the end.
Well I take it you are ok.
I know this road so I can pick up a GPS there? 🤪
Anyway sounds like you have a story to tell at the next burger meet up!
