Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Watched Nomadland and The Amateur coming home on the plane. NL was a waste of time. TA helped me kill time. Can't give a strong recommendation for either

Watched original Blade Runner ...always love it. Not in 4k or HDR but the new TV helped a bit in the darker scenes. Forget which version this was ....was extended tho. Still my top movie tho The Expanse is better SciFi and a better format for long tales. Blade Runner could morph into that universe.
Was hoping for Blade Runner 2049 as a twin feature but on in pay for version and too lazy to fire up the 4k Blu Ray

Watched some of The Naked Gun 2025.

More for curiosity then anything.
It's bad, not even in a fun way. Liam is just miss cast here, it's hard to look past him being the guy from Taken, or any other tough guy role. Pam Anderson was a good choice though.

I would recommend giving "Soldier" starring Kurt Russell a watch. Be prepared to pause when they show Todd's military record on screen.

We lost a good one .... Redford gone

A productive life from very poor beginnings....
enjoyed this article

Out of Africa remains one of my fav films.

Love these unlikely true stories.

is way better than I expected and terrific cast.
True events.
I must find the book.

That was good...this is....smarmy ???
True story and Pacino in the lead....should be good but the reviews are marginal ....dunno  but Pacino has power and that's acknowledged by the reviews we'll see 🍿

Very slow burn but good reviews

My fav folk artist, same nearly the same age as me and we sort of went through the stages of life in parallel. Amazing writer ...he was called "the folksingers folksinger".
Amazon gave me three free months of unlimited and using them to access his albums....for reasons unknown Alexa cannot connect with him when I ask but I can get the music in the app.
Eric Andersen is a prolific American folk singer-songwriter from the 1960s Greenwich Village scene, known for his poetic style and songs like "Violets of Dawn" and "Thirsty Boots". Born in 1943, he released over 25 albums, with notable works including his 1972 commercial breakthrough Blue River. His songs have been covered by numerous artists, including Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt, and the Grateful Dead, and his career also includes co-writing with Lou Reed and living in Norway for over two decades

Revisited this one from the 80's

I think the concept was interesting, just not well executed. Has a fair bit of 80's storytelling which is nice enough. But the whole movie lacks any juice, spectacle to make it better, or stand out more then what seems like a made for TV movie.

Going to follow up with the TV series.

I'm waiting for the cookbook to come out.

As counterpoint, I loved the movie and subsequent TV series that it spawned.

Shutter Island

Rewatched last night. Still a great movie.

I'm not certain I've seen this but worth watching again given the cast
Realized I have seen it when I saw that logging truck all twisted up in the parking lot.
Don't remember it in detail. Maybe overdone mayhem but not a bad origin story. (y)

re-watched Dunkirk. Did not realize Tom Hardy's role
Hard not to get misty eyed when those small boats show up.

Saw a documentary last night on Prime Video

Murder Remembered - Norfolk County 1950

NFB film. Summary here Murder Remembered - Norfolk County 1950

Bank robber armed with a Thomson machine gun (??) and a pistol kills 2 citizens who were chasing him on back roads. Local residents arm themselves and form a posse to hunt him down. Person caught, tried, found guilty and then hanged.

I was a bit surprised by the use of a machine gun, and then rural folk forming a posse armed with rifles and shotguns, in Ontario of all places, not rural Alabama.
