Pickup Trucks

They make bed organizers or you can build one with wood or use as slat dividers. They also sell various sized lockable boxes that affix to the bed but that's more inconvenient if you need to take them out for hauling large items frequently.
I have a 2024 F150 Lariat ordered. Dealer said about 2-4 months wait and that's fine as I'd rather my SUV takes the winter salt beating anyways.

Kid has a TrailBoss, been an awesome truck. He’s in tough country, 60000km since dec 22, half on dirt. A wee bit thirsty, reliable as an Eastwing hammer, and very comfortable. I’m usually a Dodge guy, but based on his experience, I’d do a trail boss.

I’ll see if my buddy will share his recent ‘21 F150 repair bill. Tip: spend the $4gs on the extended warranty. Helpful when a turbo decides to become an oil vacuum or when the phasers go on stun.
Lifter issues or turbo issues. Pick your poison and get the warranty. Test drove the Trail boss, AT4, Denali and preferred the Ford over them (Dodge was my pick after all those).
Big difference from the big trucks compared to what a 'truck' is for my needs. The Ranger...potentially...but my size is more in line with the Maverick.
Although I can probably snap up an Escape and that's both cheaper, and available with hybrid AWD...but I like the Maverick stance / look better...

Yes, I'm also thinking this simply because the price of new...is pretty much the same as used...with minimal difference. Maybe 1-2k, which isn't even worth it.
Unfortunately as prices come down, so does the value of my trade. But right now I don't know WTF I actually want...
1. A small pickup truck (Maverick) (Hybrid preferred because of the 40MPG rating, but the 4x4 burns about the same as the GTI). Concern is the lack of security, and need for some type of box / storage)
2. A CUV/SUV (Escape Hybrid / Qashqai / Rogue)
3. An EV (Bolt EV/EUV) / Kona EV)
All of them will suit my needs, same as the GTI, and will allow my wife to drive them.
I'll go for a few test drives because I'm curious how that Maverick drives. I may try it out, and absolutely hate it.

I had a "bedslide" on my last truck; handy that it allows you to easily grab stuff you've packed in the far back, but like @crankcall mentioned you lose at least 4" of depth thanks to it. For my current truck, I didn't bother getting another one.
I will say they are well constructed and handle a lot of weight though!

I do. But the Ridgeline is nowhere near my price point.
I mean technically I can just buy myself another minivan and it would meet all those requirements…

A decent/ low km ridgeline is likely the same price as a new maverick. And 10X the value, imo.
Agreed. The only reason I'm looking at the Maverick is the small size, with the utility of a pickup, and the hybrid mileage which is phenomenal.
Our Forester gets about 7.5 to 8 L per 100km in mixed driving. Just under 9 L per 100 km in winter. 10 to 11 L per 100 km when towing the pop up and loaded for bear. Kayaks, bikes, water tank, fire wood and propane tanks full along with gear.
Decent power and pretty bulletproof. It’s our second one. Price point for used is decent on the budget too.

built better, and will last twice as long! The value becomes evident the longer you keep it.
The hybrid is more $$$ than the better truck.
Better truck (for less $$$) has a trunk, vented seats, .awd, and it's NOT a ford.....lol.
