its here....

I am more curious about prolonged flight. Everything else was amazing but does nothing for me in terms of something I want in the real world. Now a car that I can fly to work in is something I would love. I live rurally and work rurally about an hour away and dream of just getting up in the morning and flying to work over the endless farmland and forests.

Meanwhile, a REAL car from a REAL car manufacturer.........

US unveiling on the same pier in Queens they unveiled the 550 Spyder in '53. Mid engine flat 8 (RUF designed) hybrid. 1,000 HP.

That's NOT a Tesla roadster. It's nothing more than vapourware. This is a Tesla roadster. The only real one, anyway. And I don't know anyone else that has actually seen one in the wild, so the scale is negligible in the grand scheme of things car.

thats actually a battery powered lotus....

What is the energy source for the thrusters? Doubt they would be electric. Likely a fossil fuel.

Is it cool? Heck ya! Does it advance the evolution of transportation? Not really. It’s a lot of flash without any practical use for public roads.

Trickle down technology is a real thing, we see this in F1 all the time.

I say its all good in the end.

Scary thing is, it took Tesla 9 years to make this thing, China will copy it and make it better in 6 months or so LOL

That thing will never see the light of day in customers hands.

Nothing more than a (pun intended) smoke show to keep the investors juicing up the stock price.

Over promise and under deliver…the Tesla way.

Supposedly an on-board air compressor, though in reality, probably hot air.
The volume and pressure of air required would be really hard to store yet alone create (compressing air is horribly inefficient). If the videos actually happened, I suspect the battery was not in the car and it was all compressed gas tanks. Like movie cars or Nikola motors, don't let reality get in the way of a good video.

EDIT:
10,000 psi storage system on board. Display tank is roughly the size of a sand filter for a pool. Rocket version removes passenger seat for another tank which brings total stored compressed air to 250kg. To recharge the tanks in an hour would require ~180hp compressor running full out for the hour. Tesla says 3-6 hours so presumably they have a 30hp compressor on board. With a 200 kwh battery, that is more than the entire battery capacity so mobile compression is basically a non-starter in your single seat toy. Thrusters have max 5 seconds of duration until empty tanks. While it can guess, car can't possibly know with certainty how much gas is required to safely land after you launch it so it's basically hopes and prayers keeping you alive after you press the button.

Get in a crash and one of these and you get the full oceangate titanic experience. That much stored air is infinitely more dangerous than the battery. A side impact and you become red mist.

I can't imagine the thrusters being legal to use in public either. A pedestrian walking past the car when you press the button would have their flesh stripped from their bones.

Sadly...with the current levels of AI...I'm not even sure I trust the video 100% that it happened.
