Politics Forum - GONE

For me, this forum was always more than just a place to talk about motorcycles. The motorcycle stuff is obviously what brought us here — the bikes, the routes, the rides, the mechanical discussions and everything that goes along with them.

But I always thought the community side of the forum was what made it a destination.

During the day, when we’re riding, we focus on, roads, skills, mechanicals, destinations etc. But when the bikes are parked and everyone is sitting around the campfire, the conversation naturally becomes about life — politics, work, housing, gardening, and whatever else happens to come up.

That community element is a big part of what kept me coming back, and I’ve enjoyed being an active participant.

With a vibrant part of the forum closed, GTAM won’t be quite the same destination for me, so I’m stepping away for now.

I trust GTAM will thrive as a place for people who want to talk motorcycles, riding and everything that goes along with it, but for now I’m gonna head off to explore some new destinations.

Maybe I’ll see you down the road!
Didn't always agree with him but I will miss his wisdom and knowledge of things mechanical. bitzz, TK4 and now Mike. That's a lot of experience that's off the table.

I just want to point out that the idea behind the political forum was not to encourage political debate, but to quarantine it. I think inreb left over political conflict that predated the existence of the subforum. It was technically an experiment, it got a fair shake, and it existed for a fraction of the time that GTAM has been around.

We have a short riding season. If we want members to stay engaged year-round, there will always be topics outside motorcycling.

Strictly controlling what members can discuss isn't moderation.

Anyone who isn't interested in politics, or can't agree to disagree, doesn't have to open or read those threads.

Removing them altogether doesn't fit a free, open community.

For those of you bemoaning the controlling of free speech and complaining "if you don't like it, don't read it", please re-read the first post in this thread so we're all crystal clear on the ACTUAL reason why the politics forum is being closed.

I'll quote it again to save you from the extra click. The important part is bolded.

Hey everyone. We tried, it failed. The Politics Forum is no longer. There are hundreds of places on the internet for you to have these types of discussions and it's been deemed that GTAMotorcycle is not one of them.

For those that are upset about this decision, I'm sorry, but I've had just about enough of the PM's and emails. This is a motorcycle site and it's about riders helping riders, so lets get back to that!

It's actually a very small minority of users that were trolling, hurling insults *AND THEN* flooding the inboxes of the mods and the admin demanding that we delete posts that they didn't agree with.

If you're going to be mad about the shutdown of the politics forum, please aim your vitriol at the actual users who ruined it for the rest of you who were able to converse with each other in an intelligent and civilized manner.

Thanks for the insight @Lightcycle, that is pretty low, and just the kind of behaviour not needed.

Pretty sure all those users are gone or on their way out.

Some of the other forums I'm on, have no politics what so ever. And everyone is pretty civilized in all threads.

Hopefully things turn around here!

Pretty sure if we are going to start playing the blame game then there is enough to go around from both sides
