Post Media recently announced they are cutting their entire flyer division. That should reduce CP income substantially in Q3 and beyond.

I got a notice yesterday in my mailbox that I can now add an app to my phone that will tell me if I have mail in my mailbox .
A company loosing hundreds of millions created an app so my lazy ass doesn’t need to walk to the mailbox. Am I really old or is making a hundred foot walk once or twice a week a game changer? Or is it both ?

I find it funny that Liberals do not see that Canada has a productivity issue but then allow crown corporations to reward executives for not meeting targets or worse in the case of Canada Post, of clear and utter failure. If this was a private company it would have been re-structures years ago and would have adapted to new market demands.
If you look into the details, they probably met targets. The targets were self-set and obviously somewhere below zero. While the politicians like to pretend that the agencies are independent, it would be trivially easy to stop funding when they fail and let them be "independent" on their own. They wouldn't last a day.
EDIT:
Apparently some didn't meet targets but still got bonuses. Bilingual bonus, non guaranteed pay bonus, etc. Complete BS and a slap in the face to every tax payer. Just what the politicians worship. Complexity and spending with results that are almost impossible to quantify.

That is why I do not believe in crown corporations all I see is crown charities. Corporations are to make money, expand and flourish not to suck the tax base dry for little or no return.
Canada Post (and CPPIB and many other etitities) still pretend they are independent and not a crown corp. When you have been granted a monopoly, funding comes from taxes and you can't fail, you are a crown corp. Like the "blind" trust, it is all semantics to pretend that we aren't being screwed without lube.

I stopped my junk mail, and surprise surprise I still got this one.
And it will work just as good as package tracking, not at all.
I may be fortunate . But I find the Canada Post service in my area actually good. Whenever I purchase items from the US (last resort). I always chose USPS to Canada Post as an option. I always get the package ahead of the noted dates and my Postal Carrier or package delivery person takes the extra effort to slightly hide the package behind a column on my front porch and rings my camera bell to let me know they delivered it.
No complaints from me. Alot better than the other options like UPS where they always try to scam duty fees or brokerage fess etc. USPS , FED EX. They sometimes charge all these extra fees. With Canada Post it's already taken care of. If I have a large package that requires a signature and I'm not home. I can pick it up at the local post office within almost walking distance. With the other delivery services. I have to drive 20 mins at least.
So I don't know if I'm in the minority. But I get good service. No complaints. I put up the junk mail if it helps them out.

Canada post also does brokerage. Very common to have C.O.D. items to deliver to recover 'admin fees' and duties. These pkgs are the most likely ones couriers dont even bother to attempt because they assume you will not be home. Next would be signature items.
Canada post delivered to my door a package that REQUIRED a signature, not anyone’s , mine. Package left sitting on porch . It was insured for eight k , box sitting there . Fully functional firearm . Idiots . Now CP apparently won’t transport firearms .

Just before COVID I decided to stock up and ordered two crates of .556 (1,000 rounds per crate) from Canada Ammo. Legally they require a signature but when I arrived at my house I found two wooden crates just sitting on my front steps.

As a crown corporation the crown owns it but isn't responsible for any debt should the corporation become insolvent.
If true the government could be under attack if another crown corporation needed money and was denied. The pattern could be used against them.
Canada Post is by every definition insolvent. The government may not be legally responsible for the debt but they have no issue throwing billions in the fiery pit. Government pretends they are loans but there is zero chance a penny will ever be repaid. That is just more lies and misdirection from the government.
