What did you do in your garage today..?

My hands are pretty grizzled from years of working on stuff. I use orange mechanics soap and a worn out scotch green pad.

If it’s really bad, like yesterday, I’ll use a flap disk on my grinder.

I gave up on those petroleum based hand cleaners years ago.

Nowadays, it's just soap, hot water, and a stiff nail brush. Gets 'em squeaky clean everytime.

Am I the only one who finds shampoo'ing my hair in the shower does a better job getting stuff out from around my finger nails than the orange grit stuff?

When it's riding season and my body's healthy, my hair is like 80% hair, 20% motorcycle grease and chain lube.

I have a few tubs of orange goo with grit. I use it when I am really dirty/greasy. I find it works much faster and better than normal soaps.
works better without water to get the stubborn stuff off, then the nail brush and wash off, dry off with wife's favourite white towel.
If you remember, try scratching a bar of soap with your nails to fill them in before the grease does. It worked the one time I remembered to do it.

Pre ride to BC tire swap today... Current shoes only have 6400km on 'em, but the trip is going to be close to 10,000km and I'd prefer to avoid a mid-trip tire change.

'Took a break after dinner to go visit my crashed riding buddy in hospital... 'Did the front tire in the evening.
'Will give 'em a wash and a scrub in tomorrow
:)

I respect riders who can do routine maintenance and tire changes on their own.

Last week you were worried about microscopic fecal matter on the ground. Now you're cleaning your greasy fingernails in your hair? 😅

This probably should go in the "What are you doing to the house" thread, but I can't find it and it and this is more of a mechanical repair than a renovation, so here it is.

As we were watching TV last night I noticed I was getting warmer and warmer. Next thing you know, I see a missed email from Ecobee that something's wrong with my AC because the system was calling for cool for the past few hours, but the temperature has kept rising. Well crap, it's the hottest night of the year, the next day is Canada day, and I'm leaving on vacation the day after. Praying that it's just the start/run capacitor, I find one with the same specs on Amazon that ships next day so I grab it. Then I go outside and check the condenser - hmmm, the fan is spinning - last two times the cap died, the fan wasn't spinning. Now I'm wondering if I have a refrigerant leak. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now, so expected the wife to call around while I was gone to have someone come by.

Today the cap arrived and I figured I could spend time I don't have to diagnose the entire AC or take a few minutes and just swap it out. Well hot damn (no pun intended), the new cap it fixed it, so it the "run" part of the old cap went bad this time. No bulging and no rusting like the last 2. The one catch is that the cap I got is physically larger than the ones I used in the past, so I had to bolt the holder "open" to the frame and leave it to spring tension to hold it in place. Will try not to dwell on it while on vacation and attach it properly when I get back.

For the keep hands clean secret, dawn dish soap does the job just fine. The orange mechanic wash is second best.

Dove shampoo for hair and nails. 😉

Most outdoor units use a dual run capacitor (two run caps in one package), they don’t use start caps. There is a common wire (Common) then one for the sealed unit compressor motor (marked Herm) and another for the fan motor (Fan).

Based on your success, the Herm side of your old cap failed.
