Another Pancake Fix

May 09 2026 I got together with some fellow Guzzi Riders at Wheeler's Pancake House.
300km round trip.
Left Bath at 9:30 for an 11:15 reservation.
The place was packed with a group of ATV riders taking over the entire restaurant at 12:30.
High cloud, 8 degrees with a cool wind off Lake Ontario.
It warmed up and the cloud dissipated as I headed North.
18 degrees and sunny when I left the restaurant at 12:30.
Light traffic most of the trip except in Perth.
$2.12 a litre for premium sucks!

Do they still have their home made maple sausages on the menu? I need to go up for brunch one day soon.

Still do
I would advise making a reservation this time of year.

I'm definitely going to try and get out there this year, ever since you mentioned this place I've wanted to go.

Some great roads getting there as a bonus

The Ompah Stomp.

Yes loads of great roads. I need to check but you may also be able to take your Africa Twin offroad on the K&P nearby at Snow Rd Station. There’s been changes in recent years with this though so double check. Doable with a big ADV bike but some deep gravel last time I went. South of Sharbot Lake is a definite no no.

Barry Lake Trail (Oompah to Calabogie) is also a good ADV ride in that area. It's an easy ride but there's plenty of challenging (real) trails and pits to explore thag run off that road.

I haven't been to the pancake house either so will give it a shot one day soon.

Did a little bit of reading and purchased an OFTR season pass. About time I had one, I’ve done rides before and ended up on trails that led to OFTR pass required areas and turned round.

Time for a summer of exploring.

Edit. A portion of Arcol Rd is washed out right now according to the North Frontenac Trail site. It’s closed there.

Just be mindful that google maps isn't going to help you with left/right decisions when you get off the beaten path. Explore with a buddy.

I’m usually on my own in these places. I have a backcountry map layer on the Garmin and I tend to stick to more manageable double wide trails that ATVs will use too and as there’s more ATVs these days there’s often one about. I’ve been lost in Ganaraska on single track but that was on a dirt bike and I don’t want to do that again.

Thanks for the post and reminder!

I’m down for a pancake breakfast one of these days and this could make for a good stop on a Calabogie ride for us paved roads folks.

I think if you come in from the east there’s minimal trail to get to Wheelers. I come from the West and there’s maybe 15 mins of gravel (and slightly worse) trail. Go soon. The flies are diabolical (well, more just really annoying) up there when it starts to really warm up.

If you come in from the east on Highland Lane off of CR12 it is paved.
Highland Lane/Kingston Lane off CR36 from the west is nasty on a street bike.
I did it on my Moto Gozzi V7 last fall and there where som steep grades with ruts.
I coudn't keep up wth the pre-war Arial and the other vintage bikes in our group.
I guess those plunger rear shocks and wrist operated traction control where designed for roads like this.
I usually turn South from McDonalds Corners on 9A Concession (Delhousie) to Highland Lane on hardpack dirt wth a bit of gravel.
The road in from Highland Lane to the restaurant is just a short jog on hardpack.
