Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Hey guys, any recommendations on a motion sensor light. My crapped out recently. Was something I bought at Home Depot.
When I look at what they have currently, most of it seems very similar to products off Amazon.

I need ideas on how to fix this water fountain.

We have Eufy stuff that’s pretty good. Added bonus of subscription free security camera too.

Water doesn’t run on or in that part does it? You could probably bondo it. Just cram the orifice with something to support it while it dries.
Not it does not. It is the very top of the fountain.

I have a buddy in the automotive industry. I could ask for some really good quality stuff.
Maybe a squirt of spray foam inside to stop the Bondo.

I guess maybe some brownish spray paint after that.

I like fountains. I have four of them, one is in a pond I made with a waterfall and normal spray head . Look after the pumps and you can do whatever you want with them. Making your own fountain/waterfall is easy and pretty rewarding using things like bamboo etc. You just need a waterproof container as a reservoir to keep the pump in and the water. A couple of mine are about 6-7 years old, slightly cracked due to weather but easily fixable.

Oh interesting, thanks!
Tapo ones are pretty good as well (I've used the C460 kit as well as the 2K one). The solar panel easily keeps them charged with minimal sunlight and the spotlight is pretty bright.

recommendation on how to make this a living space.

Full size dimensions are : 28ft x 25ft x 77” (LxWxH).

It’s the cottage basement and doesn’t have an entryway from the house and is currently just storage.

Figure it may be much cheaper to remove one of the bedrooms upstairs and build a stairway into the basement to make 2 bedrooms, then rip it all down and build up or out.

Put a second bathroom and kitchen in and have a dual cottage with 2 entrances.

That’s a def option. Was thinking of how to link the two.

Upstairs is old and dated and if parents decide to pass it along I’d like to expand it for our family (and guests).

Building up or out is gonna be expensive and not worth it. Making basement livable may be an option.

Selling and buying different may also be an option, but that’s a much pricier proposition.

Start your plan with where the egress window can go . Preferably in the new bedroom. You want multiple ways out .

4 egress windows already there. The 77” height is rather low, but it’s a cottage and not a full on house.

Starting with SS's idea, build the basement as a two-bed cottage (with a hobbit height ceiling). When the time is right, you can redo the upstairs unit as it is entirely separate. Exterior enclosed staircase to allow transition between guest suite and main cottage.

On the other side of the argument, your ceiling height wouldn't meet code so I'm not sure it's worth pouring a bunch of money into the basement as I don't know if you could get it back when you eventually sell.

Never considered the entry from outside between the two. Was thinking of removing one of the bedrooms, expanding the washroom, and building stairs between the two floors.

This is current entrance….
