If you were a fan (and you should be) of the show Detectorists:

Mackenzie Crook who was Jared in The Office (English version of Dwight) has a new show out called Small Prophets. I am 4 episodes in of the 6 episode series and it is fantastic. Same feel as Detectorists but very different story. Synopsis of the show sounds pretty bizarre, and it is, though much of it is enjoying the characters and their humanity. IMDB describes the show: Eccentric Michael Sleep, whose darling partner, Clea, disappeared seven years ago, sets out to create Homunculi - magical prophesying spirits that can predict the future.
If you like British shows and more so Detectorists you will love this show.
Thanks for this . Loved the Detectorists. Did you watch it on Britbox?

When I did watch it it was on Britbox. Now I believe it is on Acorn. Acorn bought the rights I believe as it is shown as an Acorn original. They did a Christmas special some years after the show ended which was done through Acorn

Small Prophets I watched on BBC iPlayer. Round about way to do this. Someone had all the episodes up on Youtube though that I am assuming has been taken down by now.

Kinda fun ....did not know about the scale of jade mining in Canada

How to Get to Heaven From Belfast - If you liked Derry Girls you'll likely enjoy this as well. I did.

Just watched all 6 seasons of Peaky Blinders again in preparation for the film that comes out on Netflix in a few days.

Great series, great cast and great storytelling.

Good early on 🍿
Nicole Kidman looking very different - wonder if there was some facelift
Nice to see Jamie Lee Curtis tho she's a lot over the top
..series bit into the gruesome
Good reviews
Low key presence of The Mentalist lead ...I like him.
View attachment 78014

Further into into it - taking unexpected turns and Curtis is seriously annoying.
Kidmans changed face is disturbing as one minute it's different the next she's back...
and the plot is getting a lot weird....🤷‍♂️

Simon Baker is the only reason I'm interested in this show. The Mentalist may be my second favorite show ever. Nicole's been in another show I forget but looked the same with her "new" face.

I guess that I'm going to be watching more superhero stuff. The first 3 episodes of season 4 of, 'Invincible" just dropped on Prime. I didn't even know they had green lighted it.

Watched War Machine.
Was okay. Much mayhem

surprising we all survived....based on true events

Good on Netflix for bringing these stories to light. (y)
I recall when working for Inco in Port Colborne in the mid 60s the state of some of the old parts of the factory and the insane practices workers went through....I went through as a summer worker. One of my daily tasks was to light a sulphur furnace by hand to produce the sulphuric acid for the chemical processes. The details of that have stuck with me 60 years on....eventually the old furnace blew up and killed a worker.
The NEW building was 40 years old at the time and the rest dated to 1918.
The smelter in the Netflix story looked just like the one at Inco...and you had to carry a chlorine mask where ever you went as gas leaks were daily.
The lists of the risks workers took in that factory were endless and it was a good lesson for me to NOT want a factory job.
My dad managed 31 years and only missed one day of work. I'm sure he had hair raising stories as his work took him all over the factory and up and down dozens of stair cases......12 miles every day.
He still managed to live active and mentally acute, still driving legally' at 95. It turned out he did have liver cancer tho did not die of it. I'm sure his liver was chock-a-block stuffed with heavy metal.
A heart attack took him just a day after I said goodbye not knowing anything was pending as he was sitting up and drinking Apple juice. He had the presence of mind to make sure the nurses knew not to revive him....as he was having the heart attack.
No lingering painful disease for him for which I'm very glad.

BBC has a few solid shows at the moment. One that is a 4 episode adaptation of Lord of the Flies is solid. Great cast of kids, especially the one who plays Piggie. No modernizing it, no script writers who think they can tell a better story so alter it. It is a great telling of this dark story. Each episode focuses on the perspective of a different character. This is how adaptations should be done, staying true to the source material while putting your spin on it in terms of visual and how you tell that story.

The Manosphere on Netflix. A documentary by Louis Theroux on Netflix about influencers like the Tates etc.

It’s a bit weird watching this as it’s hard to believe this is an actual “thing” but sure enough there's a lot of money to be made being a top “influencer” these days and they need their customers. These are one man Ponzi schemes at the heart of nearly all of these weirdos. “Follow my tips and you too can be as rich and successful as me” while also telling them that the reason they aren’t successful is because they haven’t paid $49.95 a month for the subscription to reveal the secrets and that nothing is their fault, it’s all women,

My wife got mad after about 20 minutes of this.

It’s a parade of seemingly quite insecure people desperate not to have a carefully manicured image damaged by anything and followers that all seem to have their own quirks. Really fascinating stuff. Theroux is a very good documentary maker and does well in this.

Taking advantage of the whole InCel thing to drain impressionable young men out of what little money they have and, simultaneously, creating some very dangerous people out of it.

Watching this documentary is like rubber necking at an accident. I simultaneously felt dirty for contributing to the oxygen these wastes of space will do anything for while also feeling horrified that this subculture exists at all and then I felt sad sad that so many impressionable young men are pulled into this toxic swamp.
