Windows 12 Documents leaked

I refuse to go beyond W10 hacked beyond belief to remove all the "spyware" features.

And I only have that until I'm either done with some old strategy games, or they work flawlessly on Linux. Then I'm gone forever.

Depending on how old they are... if you own them on Steam, that now has Proton (the Windows compatibility layer that the Steam Deck is built on) integrated. So many Windows games work flawlessly on Linux with zero effort.

I'm aware. It's cooked for a decade or so now and it's really at the point where there likely isn't much that I have that is of concern.

Our company software does not run on windows eleven . We don’t yet have a firm plan on what going forward will look like .

I am mostly, 31st last real day. , I've been offered a consulting role so my phone may still ring. One of the new owners offered just stay part time, old owner says he hasnt worked full time hours in a decade, how would that work?

I've been semi-retired for about 10 years. I work as needed, and as wanted. So probably 10 hours or so a week. If there's a downside it's that you can be doing something and get the doom call that means you have to drop everything and move into action.

Gotta ask - what is this software that the vendor hasn't planned for an inevitable Win 11 migration? Especially if it's holding your entire company hostage.

Maybe start testing on WINE.

Product is called LisaLumber , it’s a very large inventory/ accounting / sales system that can pull a crap load of reports on various things . It’s more an accounting and inventory than sales system , but it works for us . There may be upgrades our team leaders are too cheap to spring for ?

You can try and update to Window 10 long term support. But this has some limitations (which might be benefits) and long term is only next year.
Enough time to figure out a strategy to move forward.

I still running Win10. I see very little benefit in Win11, even when you squash some some of the background data collection.
At this point in computer OS's they've pretty much plateaued.

I wish Linux would up it's game and become more consumer orientated and user experience rich, so we can do away with multiple OS's and issues such as this.

Who is going to do this? Sadly, most things are driven by profit. Conceivably, a rich benefactor like Peter Thiel could finance such a venture to try to dethrone the incumbents.

Loads of industrial/commercial stuff is still on Windows 7 ...
I still have a few dos programs that were never updated. It's not worth the time and effort to modernize them as you can get them to run. Most of them were written by governments of the day.

Honestly, I think the current versions are better than Windows in most ways. They install on modern computers and the interfaces are excellent. There's just TOO much choice for some people, but I guess that's a limitation of them, not the OS.

Even the video drivers are pretty decent now. Unfortunately, there's so much ability in modern Linux that user programs haven't kept up, so shell is still required for many things... but then again, that's also increasingly true of Windows.

As a person who has struggled MIGHTILY with Windows on particular hardware in the past, I really don't think that it's any better - it's just more likely to be installed from the factory or vendor, which takes the difficulty out of it for people who are less technical.

Linux is pretty much on par with Windows from a UI perspective, so I think it's more about application compatibility where developers aren't porting popular Windows-only apps to run natively on Linux. I check every once in a while if I can switch away from Windows but eventually find something that makes me come back.
