CFMoto 800 MT-X adventure bike.

My buddy just bought this thing, literally last week and picked it up from CFMOTO dealer (didn't bother asking which one).

It's limited for the first 1000km or so to not be able to open it up, but I look forward to hearing his views on it.

Been about 2 seasons now and buddy said he loves his IBEX800.

Honestly his review is making me consider it as a replacement for the Scrambler.

I saw them all over Poland last year with many dealers. And tons of them here in Mexico also.

Not sure about dealer support in Ontario but hopefully they keep growing.

I saw it at the show, very comfortable, and well priced.

But it uses that KTM 790 engine which had the crankshaft problem. I'm not 100% convinced it's fixed.

Didn’t know about the motor. But at least new ones should have decent warranty to cover any issues. I think he paid close to 20k all in with the luggage and everything.

Camshafts. And apparently it has been fixed.

I'm not certain that CFMOTO had anything to do with the failures. It was an engineering problem from what I read as opposed to a manufacturing issue.

Yes camshafts.
Apparently they didn't and they started to build these engines afterwards. But some of the info around this seems dodgey to me. Like they are purposely making this point. And yeah apparently fixed. I dunno something about it still doesn't seem right.
Otherwise a good bike.

I'm pretty sure it's fixed at KTM, and just not a thing for CFMOTO, but I understand your reticence. I wouldn't be interested in a CFMOTO yet as I think their dealer network and everything around supplying that network is still a work in progress I think.

I think I'm over the ADV bike segment now anyway so they sell nothing I'm interested in.

I’m not interested in Chinese bikes until they have a long history of dependability. Chinese manufacturing culture tends to improve until acceptable then chisel cost out over time, weakening future models over the present.

Ask anyone who has a CFMoto ATV… great for a few hundred hours then… parts machines - even if they are still repairable, parts are hard to get so many get parted out.

Agree with @Mad Mike. So far I haven't seen a long term ride report of the IBEX. Still looking, but it has to be high mileage.
Having said that they do offer a 5 year warranty on the bike.

Would anyone cross shop with a VStrom? With Suzuki moving to a twin and similar displacement and believe the price point is comparable. Off to YouTube…….and these really aren’t my style but, maybe one day when they do look attractive to me! As I look at my old standard T100 with love……

Love those Triumphs. Sat on the new Scrambler 900 at the show and liked it a lot. Used twins are plentiful and reasonably priced. Hmmm....

Proven track record isn't there yet nor is the dealer network. Price-wise, there's plenty of leftover KTM 790/890 Adventure discounted to the same price as that and offers better spec especially if opting for the R version. Vstrom (or Transalp) would be my choice if serious offroad chops weren't required (although the new Vstrom 800 is pretty capable).

Speaking of dealer network...

Powersports TO was a dealer of theirs for about 10 minutes, a year or two ago.

If a good dealership, with good brands (Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Triumph), that they've had for a good number of years didn't want to keep the CF Motos for anything more than a season... you have to wonder why.

Maybe the sales volume/demand just didn't make sense for the amount of space they took up on the sales floor... or maybe there was more to it then that... either way... I would drop in and ask them why they chose not to continue carrying CF Moto before I spent any money on one...
