Dogs and other critters

I didn't read the entire thread but it sounds like you're intending to adopt.

We adopted a rescue, the above mentioned male. He is from Thailand and a rescue from the meat trade. Too much very shocking information out there on this. If a fraction of it is true, it's a horrific cultural difference.

When we were looking to adopt, all of the organizations had a trial period to ensure the dog was a good fit for your family. This was very reassuring as so many rescues come with some baggage and you just may not be equipped to handle that. The standard, if I recall, was 2 weeks. If the fit wasn't right, you made arrangements to bring the dog back to the foster. No questions asked.

Apparently our boy went through a few homes first. Not sure why, he is the calmest and most docile dog I've ever met but their loss was our gain.

We found our boy on petfinder.com.

We're putting this on hold currently, there's an ... 'internal rift' in the house about it (not me and wife) where it's causing an issue we need to resolve prior to proceeding.

I think I found the type we want ... Aussie Doodle or Bernedoodle .. because in all honesty I don't want a teeny tiny <15lb pup.

And here we already bought some items for the potential pup! Damnit.

After reading your last few comments I'd say putting this on hold is an excellent idea.
Getting a dog just before winter is challenging, ask me how I know. I'd say wait until spring then revisit the topic.

Jack Russell. Smart as a whip, but high energy. Needs a few good walks/day.

Too yippy and wife has outright said must be hypoallergenic to reduce shedding.

Those little things shed like mofos.
too yippy...and you want a smaller dog then that?

good luck my friend.

How often do you have to brush to prevent matting?
Brush once a week. Dual team with my wife and it takes about 45 mins.

Bath every month.

We have a walk in shower in the basement that means the dog and I get a bath at the same time....... for some reason, my wife asks that I personally bath more than that.... go figure.
