Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

We have an upright , it’s been much better than the chest , I would prefer no freezer because it’s two people, we don’t need that much food living five blocks from four grocery stores

I think the winner option is an upright with bins. You can either buy it that way or find bins that fit. That way when you open the door, you don't dump all the cold air out and it is easy to find/grab what you need as each bin is labelled. Also makes it easy to check if you are getting low on something (eg steak bin is almost empty, need more steak when on sale).

The one we ordered has bins. It was the cheapest frost free upright on the Costco site. Added bonus is the delivery includes haul away of the old freezer. It’s a Hisense one and we added a 5 year warranty for 100 bucks. Even if it's crappy Costco warranties are good.

I think we owned our stand up about 10 years at least before we finally got smart enough to actually label the bins.
We intentionally bought the smallest chest freezer. Most things go to the freezer to die but we needed more space than the stupid small drawer under the fridge for things like batches of spaghetti sauce. It's still a train wreck. Going to try a whiteboard to sign stuff in/out and see if that works any better.

That reminds me, we've been meaning to get a freezer but never got around to it. Will look around for a sale.

I've been considering upgrading my 2yr old Stihl MS250CBE chainsaw for no other reason than I saw a bigger one for sale NIB. Maybe hunting for a freezer will deter me from watching more chainsaw review vids.

I dumped out upright freezer. 3 times a year we would dump food we bought as a deal. Turns out it was costing us more than thd savings.

So I bought a second fridge. That’s working out much better - we have 2x the freezer space of a regular fridge and that seems plenty. The extra fridge allows me to keep a larger vsriety of cold beverages, and it’s great for temp cold space for family diners and entertaining.

I think we need a beer fridge. My wife complains about me keeping my beer in the wine fridge I bought her as a present.

We have a wine/beverage fridge in the kitchen. It’s about the size of a dishwasher and goes under counter . It’s been a good decision.

Our kitchen has a stupid desk built in the cabinets. The top is liquor basics (esoteric stuff elsewhere). Under the desk accumulates crap (bag of flour, boxes of crackers, etc.). At some point, I'll get annoyed enough to reconfigure with a beverage fridge and a row of small drawers beside. Or maybe a double door fridge but I will be annoyed at losing drawers. Space is an awkward width of just over 31".

One of my customers had a cool "garage" fridge with large buttons the width of the door (double door) that you can hit with your foot if you wanted to pop the door open. I've never seen a more stacked fridge- it was like the lcbo. Every flavor of mikes hard beverages you could buy, all the alcoholic seltzer brands and flavors, at least 10 different brands of beers etc, easily around $1000 worth of product inside. He popped out a cardboard 8 pack and encouraged me to fill it up with whatever I wanted as a tip for myself and my helper. I had no idea what I was grabbing but filled it up. Nice guy (y)

We started out main bathroom search for ideas yesterday with a visit to Bath Fitters. Then we went on line and were flooded with five star reviews.

We have yet to get a price but the one or two day makeover is a plus.

While the samples didn't look bad they were in essence a very large bandage over years of deterioration. Jury is still out.

Uncle did bath fitters . Not my style and convenience does have a surcharge . But it was two days . My contractor buddy says if you hire the right guy a full bath redo is one week. Apparently making all choices and having the products ordered / on site is key . He says the biggest backup in Reno’s are wishy washy clients that can’t pick a color or tile .

We do lots of bathrooms. 1 week is reasonable if you’re not changing layouts and you’re using standard fixtures. Knock off a day if you don’t use tile.

If you’re using a decent contractor, The biggest chance for delay is indecision ( changing the plan) after work starts.

If want to your best shot at maintaining your e schedule, be sure your ton, shower, vanity, plumbing fixtures, exhaust fa, lighting, tile and flooring are on site before de starting demo.

That’s the same for DIY or contractor builds.

I’m heading out this am to sign off on a bunch of bathrooms we buttoned up yesterday!

Also inspect the goods ahead of time. My daughter had the boxes of tile on site weeks ahead. When the tile guy opened them, he found they were boxes of returned discards, chipped and cracked. Then it was panic city to find a replacement.

We had a realtor come in to see what our place would be worth and while our bathrooms are dated…she said they look better than the ‘flip’ ones done on the cheap.

We will redo both but I’m scared what Kevin hid behind the walls.

Overall she said house looks good but just needs some touchups to freshen it up a bit.
