So it's that time again....winter pasttimes?

I renewed my 5x7 ski pass at Blue back in March to get the best price. Last week I was in a local ski shop to see if they had anything of interest on sale from last season's inventory. My current skis are 2013 models (bought in 2014), so I'm thinking it might be time for an update.

I'm going to retire.

'Have my letter all ready... 'Just need to decide on an exact date, sign it and hand it in.
Wish that I could say the same. I could have retired, with full pension, 2 years ago but there's a little matter of enjoying to eat and have a residence.

Re route to Cayuga possibly?
I need to get some time slips for the CB-1.
Haven't been to Cayuga since I was a kid. St Thomas is about 45 minutes closer. Since I just play at this I can't say one strip is better or worse than another. I know the routine at Sparta.

I've only watched ⅛ mile runs on tv.
No interest running on an eighth mile, cause it doesn't add up in my head.
Easier to compare on a ¼ mile track.

Most of my pastimes will appear in the "What are you doing around the house" thread but drones interest me. Unfortunately I'm almost directly under a flight path to YYZ. I've just started playing around with casting metal and might try making a ring for the Mrs.

I'd like to try street art as well but spray cans in an enclosed area aren't a good idea. The propellants used to be freon but now they use propane / butane. Freon was a fire extinguisher. The new stuff can genuinely be called spray bombs.

More than a few people have gone over to using 3D CAD programmes to design jewelry and printing the pieces with resin printers, for later casting. There's specific wax style resin to use for it in lost wax casting.

You may be limited to altitude for the drones there. I am due to the local airport here. The good news is that you don’t need to go that far to escape the restrictions. This is for sub 250g drones though. Big ones have their own set of rules.

I am so far behind in computer technology 3D isn't practical. I was fairly successful in my business using an instrument invented in 1836.

I was wondering if tethering a drone was a legal option as long as the tether was strong enough to keep the device from breaking free. I could check the eaves troughs etc and just get in some at home practice.

I had zero experience in 3D modelling and this was my third project. I downloaded something like 5 different existing 3D patterns, mixed & matched, and modified them to get this result.

You're probably fine with eavestroughs without a tether. My height restriction is about 50 meters or so I think. Maybe more. If you have a DJI drone it's an automatic setting anyway, no need to worry as it's georestricted.

I'm going slow enough that a 1/4 still works. 1/8 doesn't seem right to me either.

I haven't seen such a restriction. They assume drone pilots are morons(quite rightly) and set hard perimeters. Many drones are geofenced and will refuse to fly in prohibited areas.

As the the practicality of a tether, almost 100% chance of a crash imo. The logic assumes th drone is in free air. With a rigid tether, it would go nuts and crash. I used a tiny drone to clear some cobwebs high in the corners of rooms. If the drone touched a sloped ceiling or came close enough to a flat ceiling to go into ground effect and be sucked to the ceiling, it would fall instantly.

I highly doubt anyone would be calling TC for someone flying a drone to check on their own roof / eavestroughs.

I'm actually looking for a used DJI drone just to learn a few more things.

Got a better 3d printer than I had previously, and am really enjoying playing around w/ the settings and printing simple things for now. Will get more into the design aspect over the winter (planning to at least).

As you are well aware, most neighbourhoods have at least one asshat busybody neighbour that is happy to call in the authorities for every perceived violation. You just need one to make your life difficult (and possibly expensive).
