The Reasonably Priced Used Motorcycles for Sale Thread

Still at that price, I'd just get new tires on my dime and still be ahead.

That was my plan until this happened. Thank your Buckhorn Sand and Gravel driver for not paying any attention whatsoever and driving full speed right into the back of my father in law's SUV while we waited to turn left.

That was about 2.5ft of Volkswagen Atlas smashed into the trunk. Thank God we didn't bring the dogs with us.

It mostly missed the bumper which is probably better if you only had things you care about in the front seat. Feet of cage crumpling absorbs a ton of energy and give you a much more gentle shove than if the bumper took everything and accelerated you to mach jesus in a flash.

Glad you're mostly ok. Some members here have been through the process of negligence turning into money. Hopefully this crappy situation gets you some more bike money.

Holy crumple zone, Batman.

Hope everyone's alright.

Pushed us like 50 ft and into the oncoming lane. Father in law said he was pushing the brake pedal all the way down but pretty much knew whatever was going to happen was out of his control. Just lucky that the oncoming car in front of us was careful enough to also slam his brakes and avoid a front end collision with us too.

If anyone has any experience in this department feel free to DM me. I have no idea what to do, and a lot of time to do nothing because I can't work in my current state... which is just great when you're self employed...

Father in law's insurance co says I'm probably eligible for a max of $400 a week until I'm back on my feet again... so the teenager doing three shifts a week flipping burgers for minimum wage will make more than me this week lol

Scratch that, I think it did hit the bumper because this bar was both bent in on one end, and completely torn off on the other.

Been saying for years I would rather ride a motorcycle across Italy than be on the 401 in Canada... This happened on a country side road waiting to turn into a farm, so I guess those aren't safe either.

You can see in your first pic that the bumper was hit but it was a glancing blow. Most of the energy was higher (as expected with truck bumpers way up on the air). My guess is the bumper was a secondary impact (something like the engine block on the truck hit it after the bumper was already a few feet into the suv).

Ah, that probably makes sense given the truck had a leak from under the hood after the accident.

For perspective, this is the fucker that hit us:

Imagine dying with your father in-law because you got hit by a literal **** truck? I wouldn't be able to live that down.

Wow man ... so happy to hear you both came out of it not maimed & alive.

It could have been worse. If you were heavier, the crash might have put enough energy in the tank to blow out the front hatch and coat everyone with &*^%*&.

If it's a loaded tank, that's A LOT of weight shifting forward and sloshing side to side.

A few years ago I was turning left into my laneway on Hwy. 2 in my pick up. I had been watching a county water truck in my rearview gaining on me quickly for a couple km. I put my signal on a long way from the driveway and began to slow down, making note that the truck didn't appear to be slowing. As I came to a near stop just before my driveway (because of oncoming traffic), I heard the tires chirping behind me and I watched the truck swerving violently and knew there was NO WAY he was going to be able to stop. I floored it and went to a distant intersection to turn around.

Glad you're OK. Hope whatever damage you're sustained heals quickly, and at least stops hurting quickly.

Wow sorry to hear @adri. Glad you’re both alive and well enough to post.

I always worry sitting my kid in the 3rd row of the odyssey….only 2ft of space separating the rear bumper from his seat.

Lesson to new riders to always watch your mirrors when stopped/stopping. So does this mean you didn't get the bike?

I hate waiting to make lefts. You're a target for stupid people. One I used to make all the time has been replaced with a roundabout. People are still stupid and entitled but are less likely to kill me.

Glad you're both mostly ok. Could have been a lot worse.

So do you feel lucky or unlucky?
