Canada Post - Huge losses

CP is in a somewhat different position than a factory.

Wally at Widgets Inc is expected to make 100 widgets a day because that's how many they sell on average, over a year. On a slow sales week the excess goes into the warehouse to be on hand when sales boom.

Peter the Postie letter carrier is expected to deliver on average 100 units of mail per day. Can he warehouse anything in excess of 100 units?

If it's a slow week and he only has 60 units, can he take the rest of the day off with pay but work overtime free when it's a busy day?

A fair compromise is a blend of pay balances, including cheaper part time workers when needed. Part timers need to be vetted as well, throwing another variable into the blend. End user expectations coupled with market changes makes the subject a grenade with the pin pulled.
They are nothing a like.

Already been stated, LC's can take the rest of the day off if they finish early with full pay.
They have casuals to pick up the slack when full timers are on vacation, and busier times of the year, mail not delivered on busy days.
It's a union why would they work overtime without pay. They wouldn't

Canada Post is saved. (much sarcasm) Management has directed carriers that they are no longer to raise the flag on rural mail boxes when delivering. That change should save them at least a few billion a year.

Not anymore, they are being told to work the full shift now. So everyone's just slowing down delivery, even bringing mail back...you can imagine how management feels now.

i read the headline and thought..OK????

When the thieves see the flag up. They know for sure know there are some goodies inside.
not CP problem, once mail is in the box, whatever happens they are not liable. anywho, people can and do leave notes on their box (leave the flag down, w/e)

this new policy is a headscratcher if im honest. maybe an article explains, but im too lazy

Better idea: if an address is 5km or less from a grocery store, put in a super mailbox in the grocery store.

CPC serves our place in Porcupine like that.

Sounds like the union might be shooting off their own foot.

That’s one toe gone.

Don't some boxes raise the flag automatically when the door is opened? A little cam link does the trick.

Well that's interesting. I'm sure that isn't going over well... You still hanging on there?

I haven't worked a shift in almost a year now.

The deals that CP is offering some customers to get back lost package business are ridiculous.. and far from sustainable.
It also appears they are trying to push package business towards Puro instead of CP.

It's probably too late for CP... nothing will happen in time to save it.

When will CP and the union open their own mail.

The dollar value of the invoices exceeds the dollar value of the cheques. Why is that so hard to understand?

Could be money owed to him, grievences, retro payment, vacation pay.
That's what I suggested, but he's pretty sure its a mistake.

Years ago(1993?) I had a co worker who had almost $280k auto deposited on payday...
Back then an average payday was about $1700 take home.
Funny thing was he didn't realize until a few days after when admin/HR called him in to "confront" him... lol.
They wanted that money back soooo bad and quick they gave him whatever time off he needed and then some to sort it out.

He returned the excess money and thought it was all over and dealt with until...
Two or three months later it happened AGAIN to the tune of about $79k.

This time he went up front to raise heck...
'Made them wait a couple of weeks this time to get the excess back...

Never figured out how or why such a huge error had occurred...
