Cycle Mafia scores a win!

Of course these people are out of touch with the "common" folk.

Chow herself touts riding her bike to the office, but I'm sure she get's shuttled to all these meetings across the city, and all the events later at night. I doubt her staff accompanying her are all biking it everywhere. I've seen her at events, she pops in for about 20 min's and takes off, and I highly doubt with the way she is dressed is biking it to the next event. Hey I could be wrong and she truly lives the life she preaches.
Where does she live? A lot of downtown workers live in the burbs.

Job security and seniority.

When my wife was working near Burnhamthorpe and 427 a coworker came via public transit from near Scarborough Town Centre.

Then the company moved to near Erin Mills and the QEW. Longer commute and Go isn't cheap, add TTC and Mississauga Transit fares.

Then the company moved to south Brampton.

Quitting for another similar job would mean losing benefits and years of seniority.

Watching her wobble around while doing bike pr leads me to believe she has never ridden a bike in traffic and has rarely ridden on in controlled conditions.

Absolutely zero chance she rides from event to event. It’s nothing more than PR to show she’s into it.

No different than Freeland ‘I don’t even own a car’….

Well yes…because we’re paying for you to be driven and flown around day to day.

She has been riding for years. Pic is old, obviously. Jack is still alive (2009). She just sucks at it.

So been commuting 7 days / week from sauga to university ave (almost Queen's park lol! ) since beginning of June. I split it between motorbike and bicycle, enough that driving my car feels alien now when I get to do it, although I've been generally commuting to the core on 2 wheels or by train for at least a decade

For commuting, the lanes do their job for sure. I see a bunch of hospital workers using them too (they have at least 2 bike lockers which seem full). And I've talked to a few of them who bicycle in. It's way safer and more reliable than the subway that goes on maintenance most weekenda in that specific section.

I've also noticed that a lot of my hindrances on university (when riding the motorbike) are caused by construction, 2 to 2.5 lanes are enough in each direction... And it usually goes down to 2 lanes mostly due to street parking for cars. But the way the lanes change/end or become turn only lanes. Most days, the Gps gets me to divert just before front usually which is where the bike lanes end, so doesn't seem to be the bike lanes that are the issue there at least up to Gerrard in my experience.

In terms of what's been making traffic worse though... People are driving way worse. They hired a few dozens of traffic controlling officers to handle intersections.

But why you ask? Well everyone and their mother wants to block the intersection nowadays , and a can't wait 2 minutes for a light cycle. People cut in line at the most random places creating more backed up lines. And then as I mentioned, construction never ends making things unpredictable. And there's not a single week that passes by without seeing an accident on the highway although that last one isn't new.

Now the ebike issue... Well let's call em e-mopeds cause that's what they are... Quite wild that whole bunch. Definitely gives a different vibe. Most I've seen are reckless but self preserving if that makes any sense but it definitely adds a level of chaos in the mix. I wouldn't say licensing /insurance would change much as, we can be idiots on whatever mdoe of transportation we chose and it's not like there's enough enforcement. But maybe if soemthing tied it to their delivery livelihood there could be a possible change in behaviour.

Alright time to crawl back in my hole for another few weeks

Not a bad idea. Make commercial motor vehicles obtain a license tied to the corporation they are serving. Sandeep may not care licensing his ebike but uber eats definitely cares if they get a time out in toronto.
