Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Oh yeah 👍
Where I am now, the door bell has dinged twice, once for me testing it and the other by bible thumpers. Who will never come back..
I went off on a couple bible pushers about 30 years ago at my front door. I'm convinced my house was black listed. They since, walk right by. Perfect.

Same. My doorbell is disconnected... If you don't know that.. I've never invited you here.
I have 2 wires ready to connect a doorbell to...I just don't want to as I appreciate the peace and quiet.

During our reno we only had a wireless doorbell but now we want a camera one so eventually I'll get to it.

Working on fixing large cargo box I bought last year. Haven't had a chance to and camping trip is coming up...

1 layer of BONDO on the exterior...

2 layers of fiberglass on the interior...

Will sand and apply second layer this weekend and hopefully be done by Sunday.

My wife went out the patio door to the backyard, removing the security stick that usually sits on the track and leaning it against the jamb, going out and sliding the door shut. Our daughter's very active pup is clawing the door because it wants out too and knocks the stick back down, locking my wife out. We need a doorbell.

Why do dogs interpret a doorbell ring as a terrorist attack?

Code lock deadbolts. Not the terribly insecure connected/bluetooth ones. Just some buttons to unlock the door. I put one on the first day we moved into our first house. Never looked back. I have one on each exterior door that can take one here. I have emtek, schlage and one other (maybe guardian?). Schlage is a clear winner for the money. Emtek's are way more and slightly worse (sometimes need to enter code twice for thumb turn to engage).

Wife started lamenting about how nice it would be to have set up the above ground pool (which I offered before Poland) but she’s constantly worried about kids jumping in when no one is around.

So she sent me this as a potential project for next season…

It’s actually something I’ve considered. Doesn’t need to be fully imbedded into the soil as it’s only for a 3-5 year timeframe so if it shifts a bit…I’m not too worried.
We bought a used ornamental iron fence on Kijiji for $600 (actually made out of galvanized steel but made to look like wrought iron...). It came with a couple of gates and at least 55' of fence plus all the hardware and posts. It was almost 6' tall, I modified it to 41" and used in around our front yard but in your case you could just leave it the as-is height.

It was originally a fence for the guys pool (between the house and pool) but now the kids were old enough he didn't want it anymore. These fences bolt together (so no welding unless modifying height like we did) and in our case he pulled the posts with the concrete still on them so I just installed them... I didn't even need to buy concrete. Check FBMP and Kijiji I see them come up often, just figure out how many feet you need... then years from now remove it and sell it... Material wise you would be hard pressed to put in new chain-link for the price and this will look a lot better.

Tip, lots of them have some peeling powder-coat in places. Painting directly with tremclad etc. it will just peel again, galvanized primer first fixes that.

If you have old pushbutton code devices, check to see if the wear pattern gives a strong hint as to the code.

The code I use is different than the one my wife uses which is different than the one the kids use. Codes were chosen so all of the numbers are used by someone. Looking at the wear won't get someone far. Much easier to break a window.

Re the Ring vs Nest camera, Amazon has pet and nanny cameras starting at $40. Any issues.

Some even dispense doggy treats.

It's Amazon, if you don't like it send it back.

I’ve had issues returning things more often now.

Not liking it isn’t as a valid reason as before so I’ve seen Amazon push back unless there’s a valid reason for the return.

Honestly it’s rightfully so. People abuse the system same as Costco returns.

Not saying be dishonest. Many valid reasons for a return if a product does not meet expectations.

The other day the returns line up was out the door and around the corner.

BTW the $1.50 hot dog now comes with Coke drinks. Bye bye Pepsi.

My wife saw Costco accept returns of dirty beds, 3/4 eaten meals, and moldy vegetables / fruits which obviously was the fault of the customer…

Coke is better anyway. No loss here!

Big box stores have so much clout with their suppliers that full credits are applied to blatantly abused purchases. A pump company I dealt with said the best thing that happened to them was losing a big box account. "Defective" pumps would be returned full of sand and the thin margins on volume sales made the account a no winner.

My brother sells equipment into Costco , so much volume easily accounts for the returns although they are getting better at corporate level . Guys buying miter saws , building a deck and handing it back in are at least getting questions.

My own conscience wouldn’t let me do that … maybe I’m doing something wrong.

Grrr. Next round of problem tenant eviction. Heard a raccoon rumble in the backyard last night and they have torn soffit off the shed and at least a mom and two kits climbed in to sleep. Mother @@%#%^Ă·&. I threw a radio in the shed playing blue Jay's commentary to try to move them along. Hopefully they leave voluntarily. Bastards.
