Go Leafs Go!

My FIL was at that game. He's starting to question whether he will be alive to see it again.
I only watched it on B&W TV, but what a game and series. High expectations ever since and.....Home team loyalty I guess. But I don't watch as many games as before, that's for sure. I think the world junior tournament at Christmas time is the best hockey.

I swore off the NHL after watching the Canucks go out against the Bruins in 2011. I'm not even a Canucks fan, but I was a fan of that Sedin-led edition of the Canucks team who dominated the regular season with gorgeous passing hockey. Then the playoffs roll around, and same as every year, the refs call less and less the deeper you go. By the time they got to the finals against the Brad Marchand Bruins, it was the worst kind of scrappy garbage hockey imaginable. Dump and chase, crash the crease, try to pinball it into the net. Awful to watch, and almost a different sport to the regular season. It's not a President's Trophy curse, it's inevitable that those teams won't succeed.

Saw lots of similar complaints about the Panthers this year, so it's weirdly comforting to know things haven't changed at all (complete with Brad Marchand!) and I haven't missed anything in the intervening 14 years. Maybe if the regular season meant something, or if they didn't give points out like candy to losing teams, things might be more interesting. Way too many meaningless games, way too many points, all just killing time until you can play a different sport. So weird.
