Looks like Ford...Got it done!

Ugg I can't believe my area voted Liberal. Surprised Toronto is all NDP.

Toronto will take some time to win over. Once they see a few PC ridings get things a little faster and a little nicer, they will cross the chasm.

The pragmatist in me asks why would anyone vote for the NDP? Horvath was likable, but like those NDP leaders that preceded her, she was ineffective. As the official opposition, she fielded a weak shadow cabinet -- look at their backgrounds mostly academics and social workers -- a typical elementary school staff roster is more impressive. that proved ineffectively at holding the party in power accountable for anything. If they can't muster the expertise to do the job as opposition, how would they ever expect to run a Province?

Tell me one thing an NDP MPP in Toronto can get done for her riding?

Woo hoo! More free money!!!!!

It shouldn't work that way if it does. Imagine if Trudeau only green lit oil projects, and spent infrastructure money in liberal areas.

Sometimes it does.

Politics is a team sport, not much fraternitzing with the enemy.

Like Putin?

In a democracy, the people decide by choosing leaders to govern. Absolute power is a totalitarian or authoritarian setup that first limits freedoms, then sets up a ruling class that exploits the proletariat. Not for me.
Im talking about certain departments. Infra shouldn't be led/influenced by political donors and friends of the politicians. It should be more objective

One of the fundamentals of democracy is engaging citizens in the decision naming process. In our style of democracy, your community elects representatives to care for your interests, then sends them to Queen's Park to do your bidding. If your candidate is in power, they have more capacity to take care of your community's needs.

If you live in a community that rejects the views of of the majority of ridings, your MP or MPP doesn't hold the power to help you as much.

Now, that doesn't mean your riding gets punished... it just means the ridings in power comes first, then they come again, then its your turn.

Unless you live in T.O. and Dougie decides to cut the City Council in half right before a municipal election ?
That was long overdue. Toronto council was a runaway train... 47 ridings compared to about 25 for provincial and federal.

Each Toronto councilor costs the city 1/2 a million per year.

And now they're overloaded with work, so they have to more hire assistants. Many smaller Ontario municipalities have a much higher per capita representation. Doug was being vindictive, nothing more and nothing less.

But were they actually getting **** done. Or were they just punching a clock.

Speaking of vindictive, doubling the budget for every councilor in response seems like a well measured and effective response. :/

Are the half that got cut now working for the ones who got elected? Municipal elections were so f#$#@&^! frustrating.

Oh well, at least they got Ford re-elected.

The 416/905 has a greater population and economic resources than some provinces - PEI for instance. As such it should be entitled to certain special considerations (like Quebec seems to get ?) that neither the feds or the province seem to be prepared to acknowledge.

The reason small centers have more is simply economy of scale. When TO was 5 boroughs, you needed more, some representing local, some regional interests/issues. The amalgamation was done to get efficiencies.

Also remember in small centers a councilor is usually a part time gig. They operate out of a town hall, share resources, and keep to budgets a fraction of what a Toronto councillors blows true. Many are retired successful local pillars of the communities they serve.

Like Ottawa, Windsor, London or Peterborough ? They didn't face any municipal cuts, just T.O. And doing it right before an election ?
Dougie was getting even for the way felt he and Rob had been treated.

That's their whine. You don't need a councellor to relay calls to city departments about feral cats, potholes on your street, and kids party in the ravine.

I think that ties up most of their workday.
