Have the supervisors moved their desks outside?

Our bank usually has a lineup outside. OK for now but not in a month or two. If social distancing becomes an issue in grocery stores the outside line ups will be bad as well. 24 hour shopping may be needed to thin the lines.

Upper brass working from home.

Supervisors have offices at all the terminals and computers in their SUVs. I have no beef or issue with the acting Supervisors. I was promoted to "Lead Hand" and did that plus routing, dispatching etc at Flanagan Foods before I went to Public Transit. Glorified middle managent.

Set none of the policies but have to police them and discipline. Supervisors here ger their marching orders and carry them out; I respect that and the position they are in.

Not sure what you can do. Liability insurance would probably get cancelled if they let someone with covid sit/stand in a small room with others. Upper management is playing cover my ass. If you have good solutions, then now would be the time to put them forward. Union might be some help putting them through, if they are good solutions.

Thx for the insight.

I actually have no problem with mangement ensuring that the operators are doing their job properly. Public sentiment on social media is way skewed that we are the problem. Many posts blaming the driver saying he was probably not wearing hia mask. Let's leave the science out of it that the mask protects you from me and does little to protect me from you.

Newer regs say that we have to wear a mask except when behind our barriers or when eating or drinking. I follow these regs
However, we have bad apples in our bunch and there are plenty of drivers out there not wearing their masks and doing stupid stuff. Mangement has to address that.

I just wish that in addition to the mandatory disinfecting that have been added to our duties that mask enforcement for passengers be implemented since there is a bylaw that has been extended until May 31, 2021.

When you spend your day in a 40 ft tube which is more like a 36' x 7' room with fans going all over it would be nice if mask compliance was 100% instead of 60-70% on a good day.

Supervisor came to audit me as I took over my second bus and I had my mask on and was spraying and wiping everything down. I nodded towards the back of my bus where 8 were sitting with 3 maskless and one of the maskless bandits was coughing his lungs out. Supervisor signed his report that I had done everything properly shrugged his shoulders and walked away to audit the next driver.

Some good intentions but misdirected.

Too bad there wasn't some way to jam the back windows open a little, so that you could get air circulation. Everybody has winter coats on anyways. It would be tough to come down on everyone to wear masks, when the drivers don't have to behind their screens, and a handful have mask exemptions. You really need 100% compliance from the drivers, before it would become easier to clamp down on passengers, and then you'd have to get the transit police heavily involved.

Camera by bus door, if you arent wearing an mask, though shall not pass. Not up to the bus driver so nobody to get mad at. At least that makes them wear a mask onto the bus. I'm actually surprised that they dont have payment outside the bus with some sort of gate to keep some of the freeloaders out.

Moron Logic: One or two drivers don't wear masks for a number or reasons, specific health issue, otherwise protected etc, so redneck Ronnie doesn't wear a mask and justifies it because since not all drivers have to wear masks not all passengers have to. Ronnie's perfectly happy to aim for the lowest bar.

I don't care -- I keep the TP roll holders empty.

It's working brilliantly at my place, it encourages regular hand washing.

We have a bidet...I couldn't care less if we completely run out of toilet paper, we don't really need/use it anymore.

As for the workplace masks thing, well, irrelevant for my wife...they just completely cancelled all return to office plans for her so work from home continues for what will likely be the rest of the winter and into next spring I suspect.

My workplace just finally went masks mandatory in all indoor spaces a week ago (nothing was required before that, even in small indoor offices and such) but a bunch are just ignoring it once they're out of sight of the bosses (IE, staff lunchroom/hallways/bathroom in the basement) and about 50% of them who are wearing them when in more visible areas are wearing them below their nose. :cautious:

Gonna be a long winter.

For future reference, this article debunks various claims about the severity of the coronavirus epidemic.

why are these people allowed on the bus? do you not have the authority to have them removed?

Yeah we had to previously wear them in locker rooms/cafeteria/meetings/at someone's desk. Started Wednesday it's being enforced anytime you're not at your desk alone. Even to enter or leave the building.

“Enforced” is the key phrase. It’s pretty lackadaisical at our place at this point unless you’re actually face to face with a supervisor.

We have a new big boss at our place and he’s too much about being the non confrontational “friends with everyone” type guy versus actually laying down the law when necessary, so I don’t see much changing.

While I don’t like the old school boss....the one that’s a buddy with everyone is even worse in my opinion. My new one is like that. Buddies with everyone but when it comes to it, only his opinion matters and if you disagree....well you’re not a team player.

I have some theories...

1. I feel like the death rate isnt high enough to scare people, they intrinsically know, if they catch it, they'll live, people either dont take it seriously enough, or dont know about the lifelong side effects of surviving.

2. I also feel the government didnt clamp down hard enough, and was often dragging its feet and rolling out half measures and mixing up the messaging, during wave 1 to some extent, but especially during wave 2, people have gotten sick of hearing about it, are numb to it, and are just letting it all hang out, if they(the government) went full nazi for 3 weeks, we could go back to normal, but instead we got to hear doug ford reiterate about how he just didnt see the data(even though there was plenty of it, accessible to pretty much everyone who cared) and saw no reason to put the hotspots back in stage 2...and now we have outbreaks as a result(see: Nearly 50 cases now linked to SpinCo, Hamilton’s worst active COVID outbreak 50 cases from 1 gym)

3. I also feel at a certain subconscious level we(or a large number among us) have come to terms with/accepted the fact that they just cant be bothered or inconvenienced, and that if it means we sacrifice some old people, so business can go on, so be it.

Its not that difficult to do, some countries have done a terrific job with it(Vietnam, New Zealand, Taiwan etc)

it was more then that though. business has been ravaged, you go throwing the light switch on and off like this and they wont recover at all.

I do agree the government should just go complete lockdown for 4 weeks and let's just move on, playing this game in the middle sucks.

I cannot refuse entry to anyone. Zero exceptions. If someone does not have shoes, is missing a shoe, tries to come in with fuel etc I remind them of the policy. Then I call a supervisor and they make the obvious call.

Company policy as it stands is that we cannot refuse entry to anyone without a mask. Even on the region's facebook and twitter account they have stated that the drivers cannot refuse entry for no mask.

I am off today but on our private facebook page someone posted a pic today's notice. Another driver has Covid. That is 2 in a few days.

I see more audits and disinfection requirements. That will deal with what appears to be primarily an airborne virus.

No opening windows. There are two roof hatches. One at the front that I can control with some switches. The one in the rear is really the emergency exit but passengers take it upon themselves to open and close it constantly (and sometimes argue amongst each others as to which way it should be).

Closed tube with a high rate of airflow. On a cold or rainy day I have to run mechanical fans to keep the windows from fogging up.

Going to be an interesting winter. Gah...

Here I was thinking that with a little ingenuity, a cordless screwgun, and a kelly screw, you could make sure the window stays open a little, and not mess the bus up too much. I guess all the new ones have air conditioning.

Ha ha Iike the way you think. However, I am under surveillance at all times at work. Multiple cameras on each bus and at each terminal.

Problem is, all it takes is one dumbass like this jerk who think's this is all some big joke to (probably unknowingly) become a Typhoid Mary and those 4 weeks of complete lockdown are all for naught - doofus comes back from travel infected, doesn't adhere to the quarantine guidelines, infects 5 others in a bar somewhere, those 5 each infect 5 others (now 30 people infected), those 30 infect a few others, and away we go again.

Even places like New Zealand that enjoy a water border that pretty much means the only people coming and going are doing it in a very controlled fashion by air and ship (not just hopping in their car and travelling out of country and bringing stuff back) have experienced a few minor outbreaks courtesy of "the rules don't apply to me" idiots. They've been able to manage it because they're serious about it and have a high rate of compliance with quarantine requirements when outbreaks *do* occur, but even though we're better than the USA with compliance, we don't have the benefit of a hard water border, nor the wherewithal to let people know that if they just flaunt the rules there could be serious ramifications. The $100 (or whatever token dollar value) tickets they're handing out now for rule breakers are just being laughed off.
