Daily sports car?

Ever since I saw your previous post about that replica you and your dad built I can't stop thinking about how to get started on that build. I've been looking at donor cars first and then use that while I build the funds to buy the kit. Good thing is that model of GT as a donor isn't all that difficult to find, plenty out there.

Come visit this summer you will change your mind.
I will warn you up front. You should never meet your heroes.
Mine is not the nicest but it’s far from the worst.
There are way way better more practical cars out there for half the money.
If you are stuck on a Cobra replica then buy someone else mistake and tweak to your dream. They are not worth the build cost. Buy at .5 on the dollar and enjoy.
Seriously though if you want, once this Covid **** blows over come on out.

I will definitely take you up on that offer! I swear I'm not a weirdo! Some on this board can say that ... I think.

It doesn’t work. All you get is guys interested in your cool car.
No different than bikes.

I mean maybe if it’s a Ferrari or a Rolls, something that really screams money.
LoL I remember one of my buddies bought an Audi S5 cause he thought it would get him chicks...I told him all you're going to impress is other dudes...'nah old man you don't know ****' (I was 35 at the time and he was 25).

Saw him a few years later... "So did you pick up any chicks?" ... "No...shut up!"

Way back in the 90’s at 17years old I drove to school in a 68 firebird. Really nice car fresh out of the body shop. I was lucky Daddy was a car guy too. Chic magnet?
Nope but the guys loved it. Lol Girls thought it was loud and smelled funny.
My dad repoed the car because I was proving to be to irresponsible.
I bought a Ford Tempo and met my wife. We are still together and she still has zero interest in my cars, trucks or bikes.

On the other hand I met friends that I have to this day through that car.

Are you stuck on a cobra? A lotus 7 would be an awesome toy too. Doesn't sound as good, but probably a little bit happier as a driver (although neither has a roof so not that happy).

There's even less to a Caterham/Lotus Super Seven than even a Cobra. Statistically, you certainly don't want to get hit in one.

Almost any toy car vs any modern tank will be very bad for you. Whether the toy is 25 or 30% of the weight of the other vehicle doesnt really matter. You are screwed either way.

You are screwed either way.

99.99% of the time.

A coworker had the Caterham with the Toyota motor in it. Got hit by a transport truck on the QEW in it on a Saturday afternoon (saw it on the news, didn't recognize the remains of the car). He was telling me the story at work on the Monday. Not a scratch on him.

The guy in the truck died in the accident.

Even if the toy (that isn't a modern car of some sort) is heavier than the modern car, it's still not going to be a good situation unless you are very lucky. Crash structures started getting good about 15 or 20 years ago.

Things are heating up.
A dealer 2.5 hrs away made me an offer, to get the ball rolling (I wouldn't go first).
I counter offered. If they meet me half way, I'll be RIDING AGAIN!!!
Is all of the car money going into the bike fund? That will be an awesome bike. Good luck.

@Clutt-225 Is this the type of replica like yours?

Haha, 500 km on it. Back to Clutts "don't meet your heroes". 306 in a Cobra seems strange to me. Ford engines aren't my thing. Is that a 289 opened up a bit or something entirely different?

Can’t recall if Clutt mentioned what his build was specifically, but factory five is a common cobra replica which uses the fox mustang drivetrain. The one linked is a slightly bored over (I presume given 306ci) with a mild streetable cam. Looks like a decent build without seeing it in person.

New FJR 13. Yammy dealer contacted me!
The rest of the dough is going to insurance. M license for the better part of 45yrs being treated as a new rider. Bikeless since '14 is their excuse.

Smiley face for the bike. Sad face for the insurance.

Would it have been cheaper to have a small bike around for 6 years to keep the history active?

Similar but no.
That is a Factory five roadster built using a Mustang donor car.
Factory Five is the Walmart replica. Very well sorted out and reliable kits and the most affordable. Also great support network & on line comunity.
This car looks to be an average ish build.
306 is a ford 302 bored out. T5 is a five speed mustang trans
you can see it still has 4 bolt hubs which would limit wheel selection.
Also a few other things. The earlier factory five cars had an odd shape to the rear fenders and trunk although I think that was rectified in the 4th gen bodies.
There are better cars for the same or just a bit more coin. That said if its cheaper than that stay away Unless your just looking for the starting point to a project.
Another thing I would look for is a car that has some miles.
Cars with ultra low mileage could indicate that the car is **** to drive or has mechanical issues. With these cars mileage is a good thing it shows the car is usable.
The best names in Replicas would be Shelby them selves, Kirkham, Superformance, Back draft racing.

My car is a Johnex which was a Canadian car builder.
351 Windsor block with built internals now 392ci stroked making roughly 450 to 500hp, Tko 5spd trans.
The Chassis was built in Newmarket in CSC racing’s shop.
Johnex cars had a pretty good reputation but the company struggled.
There Was one on Kijiji recently a red one.
I would take this over the orange one and just replace the dash.

Great thanks for the explanation.
