Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

One could say that riding a bike while standing on its foot pegs the entire tire is also waste of energy.?‍♂️
That would be the one who never tried it ;)

If you want a dead flat ceiling this helps.
Put the drywall joint between the joists.
Put in a shimmed piece of plywood to back it up
The screws pull the drywall up and you have a false tapered end.

I hate them for almost every reason. Not everybody agrees with me.
  1. Initial cost is much higher
  2. You must flush them yearly (or more often if your water sucks) to remove deposits or service life plummets. To make this easier, you should install a flush kit (more $). I highly doubt most people spend the time and money to do this.
  3. If you want a trickle of warm water (for instance to rinse dishes), you can't get it. It needs sufficient flow to fire the heater.
  4. When you call for hot water, you get warm water that was sitting in the pipes, then a slug of cold water, then heated water. Everytime. You do the dance until it stabilizes. You need to tell everyone that showers in your house about the dance so they don't fry themselves.
  5. Max flowrate is ~5gpm at 70F temp rise for a gas unit. 70F may not be enough temp rise for you, therefore useful flow rate is even lower. Incoming water is ~45F, normal shower temperature is 105F, so you need a 60F temp rise if just using hot water. At a 70F temp rise, you get to add very little cold water to supplement the flow out of the heater.
  6. Way more complicated than a tank. More likely to fail.
  7. If the power goes out, you have no hot water. On a tank you have hot water for days if you are careful (and if you are lucky enough to have a non-power vent tank, you have infinite hot water with no power, that's how we kept our house warm during the long xmas power outage a few years ago).
  8. The only real upside for most people for the on-demand is it uses up less space in the basement.

Very informative. Ty.
Never really did much research on it as I never really considered it much.
I think my tank will be enough for the time being.

Besides keeping up on C19 I'm studying the Amazing Kreskin and staring at a paint roller. It isn't working.
Why is painting metal always more fun?

If you buy from a scammish outfit you also have to buy their water softener to validate the warranty while you pay through the nose for 15 years.

I summerized my snowblower.
Is it a rototiller now? if it was a Gravely you could do that,
and then next week you could mow the lawn with it.

I'm actually going to gas up and fire up my roto tiller right after this sammy. Mower too, both hondas, never a problem.

Have you seen the failure rate on here?

Cleaning out basement and possibly reworking the work bench in the garage. Also getting rid of crap I don't need in there as well.
I think Gary is the only one with a problem. I thought mine were kaput, but the connector just came apart.

Just my luck Ric.....if it weren't for the bad, I'd have none at all.
The 5 in the garage that died, all had the same symptoms......visible / flickering black rings when on. The 3 remaining are fine, no black rings. I've got 12 in the basement, all good. Thinking of transplanting from basement to garage.

Is everybody planting a victory garden this year? Racoons will love it.

Tired of doing everything in the house. It's been 2 1/2 years of isolation for us.I went to Oakridge farms and stocked up with about $150 of frozen meals. The Bison meatpies and Irish stew with Guiness is really good.Never done any baking...sooo let's see how these scones turn out.Couldn't find flour at the stores, but Oakridge had some.

You got lucky with that flour. All I could find was a 44lb bag. We are going to be fat. Lots of bread in the near future.

 No worries you can use it for other things, like the art projects we used to make in kindergarten.

I saw plenty of flour in Mississauga before I left. Full skids at Walmart, No Frills, and all the other stores.

Having just moved in here in february there is a list of 172 items so far. Painting the entire interior is happening now, 10ft cielings leave 100's of sq ft of extra wall to paint, and the living room is vaulted to 16' , its a lot of ladder work.
Turned a last century cabinet makers bench into a side bar in the kitchen, making a 30x30 maple cutting board, I'm tired of chasing vegetables around the cutting board.
Installed a new dining room light, need to take 200lbs of garden gnomes out of the back the previous owner left.
Installed a steel door in the basement hallway , I took the finished basement family room for a work shop. French doors to the backyard and a gas fireplace in there. Its going to be comfy.
Organizing the garage is next week.

Drywall lifts, they are always on sale someplace for $189. its the best money you can ever spend, and they collapse and fold up and take no more space than 2 sawhorses to store. I started just budgeting equipment like that into the project cost years ago.
Renting a 4" rotary hammer to make a vent hole at $65 for 4 hrs makes sense. They cost $800 to own. Renting a drywall lift for $50 a day isn';t really a deal, you could own it in couple days rental.

HD had a sign they are not renting vehicles at the moment. Not sure about tool rental as I got in and out of there quickly.

No flour this morning at Metro near me but I did get Fleishmann’s Quick-Rise Instant Yeast.

I had inspired my wife to make yeast. I think she’s on day 4 ???

She’s going to bake with both and see which turns out best .

Not many people in Metro or CTC today.

Got all my pool chemicals and supplies.

Ready now for a full on lockdown if that’s where we’re headed .
