Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Who the hell thought it was ok to fall asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle? Autopilot or not you are stupid to do this.

But Tesla.

I honestly can’t understand how anyone could set auto-pilot on and just take it for granted. I make the worst passenger and can’t stand riding in a vehicle without having some sort of control.

There is a rhythm to traffic patterns. Even with adaptive cruise, you still need to anticipate what other drivers are doing, areas that are troublesome or more hazardous that others. There are merge areas, construction, lane reductions, short on ramps, on ramps on the left or exits on the left, poor designs etc.

Sure, I’d use the tech but, I would never set it and forget it, do some work on my laptop, take a snooze, play candy crush etc.

I don’t even understand how folks can make the assumption the car can drive itself under any conditions.

Stuff like this kills innovation with litigation. I like the tech and think it’s got it’s benefits but, it’s never going to replace the need for a driver.

I wouldn't go that far. I think it will get there for most situations (and potentially all).

Instead of each car thinking for itself, they need to communicate more. Like waze for self-driving. Instead of a car waiting until it calculates that it is quickly closing on the vehicle in front, it already knew that the slowdown was coming as all cars in front had broadcast what they were doing. Maybe continuously broadcast location (including lane), speed, accel/decel and a transponder number. Your car can either use all of this data flying around, or a subset (say look at every fifth car ahead in your lane, transponder means that you only need to watch everything for a short period of time and then just pay attention to specific transponders, if one changed lanes, it would find new targets to watch).

HOV lane will disappear and be replaced by automated lane where only self-driving vehicles meeting a certain spec are allowed. Taking humans out should eliminate the accordion, allow for very short following distances and increase vehicle throughput dramatically. Hell, the lane could be gated and the self-driving car tells the road it wants in. The gate drops, car goes through and it pops up again. Again, with the human out of the equation, you can set tight timing with little risk.

Self-entitled prick Tesla driver.

Tesla Driver “Borrows” Electricity From House Without Warning Owner

A white Tesla Model 3 was over his lawn. Worse still, it was plugged to Fraumeni’s external socket. Although lots of evil possibilities where on the table, the house owner did just what any decent person could do: he called 911.

The cops tracked the owner and he arrived to pick up the car. He had left it there for 12 hours. And, according to Fraumeni’s wife, Rose Ann, he did not even apologize for doing so. His only excuse was that his battery went dead.

Simple fix. Disconnect cable at the house, and at the car. Keep cable, or cut it up into little pieces. Won't do it again.

I was more thinking charge them for theft under $5K and give them a ticket for failure to drive in marked lane. When you spend that much on a car, the cost of the cable is almost immaterial. Same problem as parking tickets on bloor street. The old ladies going shopping at Holt Renfrew just used it as $25 parking. Once they started towing the cars, people stopped parking on Bloor. The solution is to hurt them financially and more importantly cause a major inconvenience in their life so they alter their behaviour.

Hmmm....remove wheels and leave the car on blocks? Or just call the city and have it towed off the property also works I guess. But I'd have some fun with this asshat.

Something something about tire valve stem tools on aliexpress for $1.50..
**chuckle**

The only thing that would piss me off about the incident.. is the attitude when he came back for the car...
I wouldn't call the cops when I found it.. it's obvious what happened, why the car is there... It's not a police matter IMO.
I wouldn't even unplug it...
BUT... You better have a couple beers or bucks in your hand when you come back to get the car. Give me attitude or show me anything but appreciation for my kindness and the situation will get ugly real quick.

I got a bunch of devices that have low batteries, what's your address i'd love to come top them up.

So someone I know just got a Tesla with the ludicrous option, took me for a spin in a business area..... holy moly the thing can move ridiculously fast. I'm still in shock. We did 100 in like 2 seconds, and I could feel the force unlike any other car I've been in. Very impressive.

One thought crossed my mind, if all cars become electric and have this kind of accellerration (or similar) it's gonna make things worse with iditoic stuff on our roads.

Technically you can get a 172 ticket for accelerating that quickly. But yes, you are correct, we've all seen the carnage of grey hairs that get the gas and brake confused and launch into stores. With modern EV's instead of burying their buick to the A pillar, they will proabably end up with the entire car in the back room (assuming the car cuts the power after the first wall deploys the airbags).

Buy an e-tron, get a free scooter.

Audi is considering giving away one of their new electric scooters (fall 2019 release - retail $3,000) with the purchase of their electric vehicles.

While we're on the subject, drive to work in this......

That Tesla owner is a tool. And probably a new EV owner as well. One only need to look as far as the Plugshare app to find a local charger, or in a pinch....yes, there ARE actually people listed on Plugshare that willingly offer up use of their Level 2 chargers at home, and some even who offer up a regular 120v outdoor receceptacle as well - usually prospective/future EV owners who just want to host one in the meantime, if even only to charge. Slowly. But it gets the job done.

Yeah, I agree. They just happened to own a Tesla because it was the new cool car. A few years ago, it would have been their mercedes parked on the lawn to make sure it didn't get hit by passing cars.
