If they can't re-manufacture a battery pack successfully then they should get out of the business.
It's not rocket science but does require significant investment in testing tools.

It's weird that 701 has been for sale for quite a while now. I thought it was priced alright when it was $1000 higher, pretty shocked it isn't gone yet.

I look at bikes, however can't get another without selling my current one and adding cash on top, its a cool bike, though after a certain price range I don't have $8.8k just lying around and then time to sell the current model. So am stuck in either selling, hoping such deals stay, or going the dealer route and trading in, hoping they have what I want, transfer insurance, hassle free and walk out, albeit paying more.

Lots of well priced GS800s and KTM 990s I see, the ones at dealers go so quick even if they cost more with less farkles (3-5 days), whilst I find the private seller ones last weeks, maybe for the same reasons ?

2018 they made some changes and I think it devalued the previous gen a bit. I would still consider it because it's a great deal but if I'm spending almost 9K, I'd rather add a few extra bucks and get the 18+.

the main changes were in 2017 I believe, not 2018. They added the balancing shaft and more power for a smoother less vibey ride, 2016 VS 2017 is a big diff, the 2017s are good

Yep, 2017. 2019 had major changes for the ktm 690, not for the 701 though.

Every time i read ev stats like that, i find it hilarious that the manufacturers even think their product is ready for the market.
80km.... Charge for FOUR hours....80km.
Bahaha.
Same thing with the EM5.7. Every time i see one at a competition, there is a $1500 Honda generator beside it in the pit and a big lunch cooler. Very cool, unique machines, but not ready for prime time.

not really sure if this is a good deal. (fully depends on how well the bike runs and stuff) tho its pretty funny with the mismatch panels =P
$990 for a 01 sv650.
says 40km... im assuming that means 40,000km.....

I don't know.
but from pics;

rear seat appears to have small tear
head fairing has cracks where missing signal should be- on right side to headlight opening
both front signal lights missing
rear tail plastic is rashed
missing mirrors
says mechanically good- but he also says needs almost nothing to certify lol - remember this is also the guy who stated great mechanical cond..
and states has chain battery and tires all great, but none sound new or recent
and why is the side stand too short? probably swapped out rear shock for 50$ used shock off whatever- and took a grinder to the linkage to make it fit.

You can find some pretty clean $2000 SV650's that will likely go for $1500. He's firm on his price.

nice exhaust though....

I think the only thing they are really suited for at the moment is in town riding and commuting. As you said 80km is nothing unless you are just going to work and back, then plug in over night so more then enough time to fully charge. Hopefully people do buy these bikes early on to push the market and get more R&D dollars in to get those charging time down to under 10 - 15 mins.

It's a dirt bike. 80km is more than enough range to whip around Ganaraska for 2-3 hours in blissful peace and quiet. Freaking out the hikers as you come flying silently around a corner is just icing on the cake. I've never used that particular electric, but the one I did ride was fantastic. No, it's obviously not suited for long range adventure but it can still be a ton of fun if it suits your use case. (P.S. I think the size of the house in the background is a good indicator of the target market...)
