Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

I started logging our weekly consumption on the Ioniq yesterday morning, so I should be able to get a good summary by the end of the week. I meant to start Monday but I forgot to reset the trip odometer.

It’s amazing so far - hovering around 11.5kwh/100KM per the in car display at least. This car is slippery - the difference between it and my Volt when coasting is amazing - the Ioniq sometimes feels like you’re still stepping on the accelerator pedal when you’re actually just coasting with zero regen. It’s known as the most efficient EV out there right now, and I’m starting to understand why.

Between my wife’s commute plus some running around last night the car had around 130KM put on it yesterday. Arrived home with 97KM still showing on the GOM.

Those are really good numbers!

I can’t imagine going back to an ICE car now that I have the Volt. I sometimes daydream about what my next vehicle might be.

Parked beside a Kona yesterday and it’s smaller than I thought it was. The trunk in the Volt might actually be bigger. But I’d like to try one out.

The Niro also seems like an option.

GM might have some cool options too.

Maybe I’ll find a big bag of money and be in the market for a Rivian!

I've been saving up for that new Lincoln Aviator plug-in ... 450hps, 600 torques and a beauty interior.

I figure by the time I can afford it, I'll want something else I can't afford. It's how I save money.

Methinks there will be a revolution in the pickup market, at least the part that serves urban cowboys. I don't see why they are so late arriving, there are so many good reasons for doing pickups:

1) Most pickups sold do light duty
2) They all have large chassis and big payload capability. This means means lotsa battery
3) They are thirsty -- delta in energy costs should be far greater than cars

Bring me a 1/2t ton 4WD electric pickup for 50K and I'm all in. I need a 200km range towing 5000lbs, fast charging. Maybe it needs a small onboard gennie option?

A rather substantial part of the pickup-truck market wants the V8 rumble and lifted suspension and macho image. EVs will be a tough sell to that segment.

Most people who buy a heavy-duty pickup truck, don't need one.

Can't remember the exact figure but Workhorse went from a penny stock to $5ish yesterday, solely on the possibility of the GM deal. It certainly wasn't on their (up till now) vapourware.

As for aftermarket suspension, EV truck makers could use existing chassis - voila! - aftermarket ready.

The high pitched whine of electric motors delivering 700HP and 700lbs torque to the wheels night just trump the throaty rumble of a V8.

Kicked some EV tires at lunch time today.

I don’t think it’s any bigger inside than my Volt but it’s very nice.

Nice. The dash and infotainment GUI's look very similar to the Ioniq - the speedo looks slightly different. Same push button shift setup and other button locations look familiar within reason.

I looked at the Kona for sure as a consideration to replace the Volt, but 2 things steered me towards the Ioniq instead - no EV Konas on the used market yet (so >$$$ vs what we paid for the Ioniq) plus my wife still likes the sedan layout more than the SUV/crossover look.

I looked at the Ioniq 2 years ago when we originally bought the Volt as well, but it was the exact same issue then - no used Ioniq's as they had just came out (and they were hard to find to begin with) and the new car $$$. I was also more committed to GM only at that point, but with the whole Oshawa plant thing that became less of an issue for me in the last 6 months.

Things may change again in a few years - chances are we may move on from the Ioniq in 2-3 years and use it as another stepping stone to something newer/different/whatever.

I'm the opposite on this point. While I enjoy my time with the Volt and have found it to be a good car there's something missing for me that I can't place my finger on. I do miss a manual transmission and def miss a good sounding motor. Maybe I'm just bored but I'm starting to look at other options to replace the Volt. Maybe a more exciting EV is in the future for me, but I haven't the cash for a Model 3 or something more entertaining.

I want to do a Cummins/ZF swap into a 77 Ford F-350. But my daily driver would likely be an EV.

Very nice. My neighbour has a similar build going on....not sure about he year of the old Ford in his driveway but it sounds stupid fun when he fires it up!

With my last car before my Volt being a Hemi Magnum I can relate to some extent...but all I need to do is look back at my logs of 80L fillups (which would now run me over $100 each) and only going ~500KM on that tank of gas..I'm quickly reminded exactly why I really love my Volt again. ;)

Anyone else watch this YouTube channel? Reminded me of this latest video right away.

Today marks 1 year of driving with my Volt.

My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner!

307L of fuel used since I started driving it and approximately 1/3 of it was for work which I expensed at $0.45/km.

That's really good economy. I do 22K per year (only drive my car in the winter) so even at your economy I'm not gonna break even when compared to a Cruze.

We get it.....

You could have also bought this and saved a fortune compared to your Cruze

I completely forgot to finalize the earlier kWh track I was doing so the data is probably all muddled now...I will do it again one day when I remember to reset the trip odometer on a Monday and then track it properly.

In the meantime here's some screenshots from the cars own data:

With the weather being all over the map recently (Heat needed one day, AC the next) the higher numbers probably reflect heat days. The 11.0 trip was a drive I took to pickering and back on Saturday - 401 there and back, about 40KM, no HVAC and 110 or so KPH. It's very easy to coax it down with efficient driving.
