Honda CBR 1000 RR SP

?

This news just came out today and I didn't see any thread popping up regarding this. Perhaps my eyes are failing me and if this is a duplicate of another thread, then I apologize

looks badass even if it is a 17k price tag. but yeah, for that monies, i'm sure you can get an even more "prestige" bike.

I take it back... apparently Tapatalk was on another forum. My bad.

Base RSV4 with ABS is $2k cheaper than that. Also the TTX is pretty high maintenance for a street part.

I think the S1000RR is probably possible to buy at around $19K or so (plus plus) but honestly I'd rather have the CBR. Just personal pref.

without ABS and TC, it's simply missed the boat.
Now if they offered it for $14K with no lights and race glass, it would make more sense.

It looks like it got ABS but if I were in the market as much as I like it, for an extra 3k I'd prob just go for an RSV4.

The bike pictured definitely has ABS reluctors on it

That'd be the full Factory version. Not that I'm disagreeing (obviously) but the base level bike is quite a bit cheaper and still has TCS/WC/LC/QS/ABS. If you want all those features for the Honda (except wheelie control) you'd be into another $3K between the parts and the tuning time... which would be parity with the Factory or S1000RR. Knocking on Panigale money, too.

Having ridden the CBR a bit, I find it to be more nicely balanced than the BMW... or a GSX-R, to be honest. This special edition seems like it would be even nicer. Good bike, just maybe not enough given the competition.

FWIW, the new MV F4R also has a good TCS/WC/QS system complete with (cue fanfare) throttle blipper for downshifts. Apparently they've refined it since the early press tests this spring and it's really come a long way... definitely on par with BMW's system. Again, it's in the $20K-ish range.

Article states: "european ABS model shown"

No one is sure if we will even see that colour or model here.

Which I think is a bargain for that price. Just saying if you're gonna go that route and spend 17k+ anyways mights as well get the whole deal :D

Yep, you get the cool bike, the better handling, the light wheels, lots of carbon fiber parts and nice attention to detail like laser-etched screw heads. Oh, and a V4 engine which makes the bike work quite a bit differently than an i4. There's a reason they've used V4s in MotoGP, afterall...

After a summer with mine, there are only two things I don't like... the mirrors are kinda chintzy for a bike like this and audibly vibrate a bit (I wear earplugs, which cancel it totally but not all the time). Also, the stock gearing is too high, probably for emissions reasons... easily fixed but I haven't got around to it yet.

Also, as I read it... no ABS option on the CBR for North America?

I really like the Yamaha V4 they use in MotoGP ;)

On topic - I believe the idea with the bike is that you'd buy this and not have to switch out any suspension components. It has no TC and the other fancy stuff, but some people have said they don't like it, and it has the same components as the other top-level bikes. The Honda, before the suspension upgrades, was still doing well in some magazine comparos, so, it's interesting. Someone made the comment that the engine mods were for homologation purposes.

Well according to Honda Canada, this is their take on why it doesn't have TC...
More and more engineers are using computer assisted electronic aids to bridge the gap between man and machine, but in doing so something is lost, the feeling of control is diminished, the reward to the senses faded, the experience compromised. Noticeably absent on the CBR1000RR SP are electronic aids of any kind; engineers instead took a different, perhaps more laborious, approach.....

God, what bullsh*t.

Making a 150hp+ bike without TC and ABS in 2014 is irresponsible. I'm amazed someone has not sued in the US yet. Even the cheapest cars now have ABS, TC, and ESC standard, because if you don't have this, you will get sued.
Even the best racers in the world, on super-sticky fat slicks are using TC.
The real reason is cost, and the high yen versus the US dollar.

If someone is going to spend $17K+ on a litre bike, they will go all in and pay $20K+ for a BMW or Ducati.

"hand picked pistons and connecting rods" -what, they grow in a field outside Osaka somewhere?
"a lightweight subframe carries a single-seat cowl that shaves weight and optimizes the bike’s CG" No it doesn't, the whole tail is in a huge empty wake from the rider's butt.

You actually believe magazine article opinions of bikes?

Count the ads from each manufacturer, there's your opinion.
